El Cabanyal
El Cabanyal (Cabanyal-Canyamelar) is a neighbourhood in the city of Valencia which is part of the sea village. It is located in the eastern part of the city, very near to La Malvarrosa, Valencia's main beach. In 2020, ''The Guardian'' classes El Cabanyal as the third coolest neighbourhood in Europe. Remodeling On 24 July 1998, the local government of Rita Barberà, of the conservative People's Party approved a plan for extending the Blasco Ibáñez avenue to the sea. The plan implied the destruction of 1,651 houses all located in the whole neighbourhood. The old fishing enclave of Cabanyal-Canyamelar, which was and is very deteriorated, is also considered a Heritage site of Cultural Interest, so the plan could not be applied and the struggle between the Town Hall and the neighbours fighting against the destruction of their home led to a social fracture that has continued since then."A Tortured Cabanyal", text by Sergi Tarín in "Houses from El Cabanyal, Valencian Modernism ...

Judas' Kiss (1954 Film)
''Judas' Kiss'' (Spanish:''El beso de Judas'') is a 1954 Spanish religious drama film directed by Rafael Gil and starring Rafael Rivelles, Francisco Rabal and Gérard Tichy.Bentley p.121 Plot It tells the story of Judas Iscariot (Rafael Rivelles) with the famous kiss of him betraying Jesus to the Romans in exchange for a few coins. The magazines of the time rapturously described the spectacular nature of El beso de Judas, rarely seen before in Spanish cinema, not even in Alba de América, by Juan de Orduña, which in the end had been shot with severe budget cuts. Eighty-two sets, exteriors shot in the Holy Land (Rafael Gil moved there with a film crew in the summer of 1953 and the images would later be used in long shots or on transparencies of the film), a brilliant cast and – above all – An interesting plot idea characterized El beso de Judas: narrating the story of Jesus from the point of view of Judas. The journalist Barreira ended one of his reports by pointing out: "Neve ...

Don Quixote (1947 Film)
''Don Quixote'' or ''Don Quixote de la Mancha'' (orig. Spanish title ''Don Quijote de la Mancha'') is the first sound film version in Spanish of the great classic novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. It was directed and adapted by Rafael Gil and released in 1947. A huge undertaking for Spanish cinema in its day, it was the longest film version of the novel up to that time (two hours and twelve minutes, plus an intermission), and very likely the most faithful, reverently following the book in its dialogue and order of episodes, unlike G.W. Pabst's 1933 version and the later Russian film version, which scrambled up the order of the adventures as many film versions do. Characters such as Cardenio, Dorotea, and Don Fernando, which are usually omitted because their respective subplots have little to do with the main body of the novel, were kept in this film. The film, which starred Rafael Rivelles as Don Quixote and Juan Calvo as Sancho Panza, featured a young Fernando Rey as San ...
