Rafael Emilio Ramírez Peguero (born February 18, 1958), is a former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) primarily as a shortstop from 1980 to 1992. Ramirez made his major league debut on August 4, 1980 for the Atlanta Braves of the National League (NL). Ramirez led the national league in errors from 1981-1983 as well as in 1985. Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order.
