Radu is a masculine Romanian given name of Slavic etymological origin, derived from the Old Church Slavonic root ''rad-'' (cf. '' радъ'' "glad"). Radu became widespread among the (non-Slavic) Romanians because of Radu Negru's status as legendary founder of Wallachia, a historical Romanian state. Many Wallachian and some Moldavian voivodes or princes have been named Radu. Male
Male (symbol: ♂) is the sex of an organism that produces the gamete (sex cell) known as sperm, which fuses with the larger female gamete, or ovum, in the process of fertilization. A male organism cannot reproduce sexually without access to at least one ovum from a female, but some organisms can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Radu Bălescu
Radu Bălescu (Bucharest, 18 July 1932 – 1 June 2006, Bucharest) was a Romanian and Belgian (since 1959) scientist and professor at the ''Statistical and Plasma Physics'' group of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He studied at the Titu Maiorescu high school, in Bucharest (1943–1948) and the Athénée Royal d'Ixelles (1948–1950). At the ULB (1950–1958) he studied chemistry and obtained a PhD in 1958. He started his academic career in 1957 at the ULB as an assistant (with Prof. Ilya Prigogine) at the ''Service de Physique Théorique et Mathématique''. He became a professor at the ULB in 1964. He worked on the statistical physics of charged particles (Bălescu-Lenard collision operator) and on the theory of transport of magnetically confined plasmas. Radu Câmpeanu
Radu-Anton Câmpeanu (; 28 February 1922 - 19 October 2016) was a Romanian politician who was also jurist and economist by profession, after graduating from the University of Bucharest in November 1945. During the interwar period and up until 1945, he was the leader of the National Liberal students' association at nationwide level (the equivalent of today's National Liberal Youth Wing). While in exile in France, at some point in time due to the exile of Paul Goma and his arrival in France, Câmpeanu was suspected to have become an informer for the Securitate (the dreadful Romanian Communist secret police), but no conclusive evidence has been produced to support this allegation. Constantin-Radu Budișteanu (October 11, 1902–1991) was a Romanian lawyer and activist of the Iron Guard. Radu Boureanu (March 9, 1906 – September 5, 1997) was a Romanian poet, prose writer and translator. Biography Born in Bucharest, his parents were Eugen Boureanul and his wife Jeanne (''née'' Michel), who was a schoolteacher of French origin. He studied at the Mihai Viteazul and Matei Basarab high schools in his native city, and privately at Bazargic.
