Radio Rivers 99.1 (also known as Radio Rivers 2) is the first state-owned Frequency modulation, FM List of radio stations in Port Harcourt, radio station in Rivers State, and the second FM radio station to launch in Nigeria. It is run by Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation (RSBC) and operates on 99.1 Megahertz. The station first signed on the air on Saturday 2 May 1981. Radio Rivers FM broadcasting studio is located along Degema Street in the heart of the old Port Harcourt township commonly referred to as 'Town'. The station's transmitters are based in the Port Harcourt neighborhood of Elelenwo, Port Harcourt, Elelenwo from where it transmits to various towns and municipalities of the state and beyond. ''The Tide'' is a Nigerian daily newspaper. It is the most widely circulated newspaper published in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and one of Nigeria's major newspapers. Owned and funded by the state, ''The Tide'' began printing operations on 1 December 1971 and has a digital version. Fire On 20 July 2012, a fire broke out in ''The Tide''s main building, damaging significant portions of the establishment, including the General Manager's office, Credit Control Unit, Administration General office and Board Room. Although no injuries or deaths were reported, much of the company's equipment and staff documents were destroyed. According to a statement from the General Manager Mr. Celestine Ogolo, the fire started at around 2.00a.m and quickly took over the highest floor of the building where his office was stationed. Rivers State Television (abbreviated RSTV), UHF channel 22 is a state-owned television station in Port Harcourt city, Rivers State. It began its operation in 1985. Initially, the station's broadcasting power was 1 kW and signals were transmitted on UHF channel 55. After an upgrade in 1991, RSTV moved to UHF Channel 22 and had its radiated power boosted to 30 kW. Signal transmission and reception RSTV's signal is received in parts of nine states.
