Radio Noon
Radio Noon is the name of CBC Radio One's regional noon-hour programs in the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador. It was formerly the name of all of the network's noon programs, regardless of location, although many of the programs have since adopted new names such as ''Maritime Noon'', ''BC Almanac'' and ''Ontario Today''. Each province has its own ''Radio Noon'' program, which is produced by the network's primary station in the province but airs provincewide. All of the programs follow roughly the same format, with interviews for the first half-hour followed by a half-hour phone-in segment. Manitoba ''Radio Noon'' in Manitoba is produced at the studios of CBW in Winnipeg, and is hosted by Marjorie Dowhos. CBC Radio One is the English-language news and information radio network of the publicly owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It is commercial-free and offers local and national programming. It is available on AM and FM to 98 percent of Canadians and overseas over the Internet, and through mobile apps. CBC Radio One is simulcast across Canada on Bell Satellite TV satellite channels 956 and 969, and Shaw Direct satellite channel 870. A modified version of Radio One, with local content replaced by additional airings of national programming, is available on Sirius XM channel 169. By-elections to the 39th Canadian Parliament were held to fill vacancies in the House of Commons of Canada between the 2006 federal election and the 2008 federal election. The Conservative Party of Canada led a minority government for the entirety of the 39th Canadian Parliament, though did increase their number from by-elections. CBME-FM
CBME-FM is an English-language Canadian radio station located in Montreal, Quebec. Owned and operated by the government-owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, it broadcasts on 88.5 MHz using a directional antenna with an average effective radiated power of 11,510 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 25,000 watts ( class B) from a transmitter atop Mount Royal. The station has a commercial-free news/talk format and is part of the CBC Radio One network which operates across Canada. CBN (640 kHz) is a public AM radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It carries a news, talk and information format and is the local Radio One station of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. CBN is powered at 10,000 watts, and is a Class A station broadcasting on a clear-channel frequency, shared with KFI in Los Angeles, the dominant station on 640 AM. CBN uses a non-directional antenna located off Thorburn Road near Exit 44 of the Outer Ring Road on the Trans-Canada Highway. With its non-directional signal and low dial frequency, CBN can be heard by day around most of Southeastern Newfoundland. At night, it can be picked up across much of the eastern half of North America with a good radio, but is strongest in Atlantic Canada and Eastern Quebec. In broadcasting, a phone-in or call-in is a programme format in which viewers or listeners are invited to air their live comments by telephone, usually in respect of a specific topic selected for discussion on the day of the broadcast. On radio (especially talk radio), it is common for an entire programme to be dedicated to a phone-in session. On television, phone-in's are often part of a wider discussion programme: a current example in the UK is the "Jeremy Vine" TV show.
