Radio City 1386AM - The Swansea Bay University Health Board's Radio Service is the Hospital Radio service based in Singleton Hospital, Swansea. About the service Radio City 1386AM, is one of the longest running Hospital Radio station in Wales. It produces chat and news programmes, as well as playing music to patients at Singleton Hospital in Swansea. It broadcasts on 1386AM (LPAM) and on channel no.4 (wards 1–12) and on channel no.12 (wards 14–20). History The Swansea Hospitals Radio service was founded on 1 August 1966 by Robert Rees, David Vaughan and Clive Thomas - three school friends who had been watching a television programme on radio in hospitals run by voluntary groups. The early programmes were recorded on tapes in people's houses including two of the initial DJs, Tim Richards and Tony Bowden. BBC Radio Wales is a Welsh radio station owned and operated by BBC Cymru Wales, a division of the BBC. It began broadcasting on 13 November 1978, replacing the 'Radio 4 Wales' opt-out service (previously the Welsh Home Service). Radio Wales broadcasts in English, whilst sister network Radio Cymru has Welsh language programming. As of August 2022, the station's managing editor is Carolyn Hitt, who is also editor of BBC Wales Sport. According to RAJAR, BBC Radio Wales has a weekly audience of 298,000 listeners and a listening share of 5.1%, as of September 2022. History In November 1978, BBC Radio Wales was launched as a distinct station on the former Radio 4 opt-out frequency of 882 kHz. Radio Caroline
Radio Caroline is a British radio station founded in 1964 by Ronan O'Rahilly and Alan Crawford initially to circumvent the record companies' control of popular music broadcasting in the United Kingdom and the BBC's radio broadcasting monopoly. Unlicensed by any government for most of its early life, it was a pirate radio station that never became illegal as such due to operating outside any national jurisdiction, although after the Marine Offences Act (1967) it became illegal for a British subject to associate with it. The Radio Caroline name was used to broadcast from international waters, using five different ships with three different owners, from 1964 to 1990, and via satellite from 1998 to 2013. Free Radio Black Country & Shropshire is an Independent Local Radio station based in Birmingham, England, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Shropshire, Wolverhampton and the Black Country. As of September 2022, the station has a weekly audience of 85,000 listeners according to RAJAR. ''BBC Wales Today'' is the BBC's national television news programme for Wales, broadcast on BBC One Wales from the headquarters of BBC Cymru Wales in Central Square, Cardiff. Jason Mohammad (born 17 September 1973) is a Welsh radio and television presenter currently working for the BBC. He is the current host of ''Final Score'' on BBC One on Saturday afternoons. Personal life Mohammad was born and brought up in Cardiff to a Pakistani father and Welsh mother, going to school at Glyn Derw High School. He studied Welsh and Politics at Swansea University, and then attended Cardiff University for a postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism. He is a practising Muslim. Amanda Sergeant
Amanda Sergeant is a British newsreader. Before breaking into the world of journalism, she was a part of Radio City 1386AM, a Swansea based hospital radio station. Sergeant began her career starting as a BBC radio researcher in 1993, after completing her postgraduate training at the Centre for Journalism Studies at Cardiff University. She progressed quickly through the ranks, becoming a TV reporter specialising in live outside broadcasts, then a senior TV presenter with BBC Wales. Since joining GMTV, Sergeant has reported on a wide variety of national and international news stories, from the Kosovo War in Macedonia to New York Fashion Week and the Grammys in Los Angeles. She divides her time between London and Wales where she lives with her husband, broadcaster and writer Miles Fletcher. She is also an accomplished gardener. Roy Noble
Roy Noble, OBE, DL, K.St.J, Rotary Fellow (born 1942) is a Welsh radio and television broadcaster, writer and Bevan Commissioner. Biography Noble was born and raised in Brynamman in the Amman Valley of Carmarthenshire, the only son of coal miner Ivor Noble and his wife Sadie. After passing his 11 Plus entrance examination he attended Amman Valley Grammar School, where fellow pupils included rugby union administrator and barrister Vernon Pugh and John Cale, of the Velvet Underground. On finishing school, he tried to join the RAF as he had always wanted to be a pilot, but was turned down because he suffers from hay fever. He trained as a teacher at Cardiff Training College, where he was the President of the Students’ Union in his final year.
