Rade Šerbedžija
Rade Šerbedžija ( sr-Cyrl, Раде Шербеџија, ; born 27 July 1946) is a Croatian actor, director and musician. He is known for his portrayals of imposing figures on both sides of the law. He was one of the best known Yugoslav actors in the 1970s and 1980s. He is internationally known mainly for his role as Boris the Blade in '' Snatch'', his supporting roles in such Hollywood films as ''The Saint'', '' Mission: Impossible 2'', '' X-Men: First Class'', '' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1'', and ''Taken 2''; and for his recurring role as former Soviet Army General Dmitri Gredenko in Season 6 of TV action series '' 24''. ''24'' is an American action drama television series created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran for Fox. The series stars Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer. Each season covers 24 consecutive hours in Bauer's life using the real time method of narration. Multiple interrelated plots are featured in each episode, which often include Bauer's contacts in perilous crisis. The Serbs of Croatia ( sh-Cyrl-Latn, separator=" / ", Срби у Хрватској, Srbi u Hrvatskoj) or Croatian Serbs ( sh-Cyrl-Latn, separator=" / ", хрватски Срби, hrvatski Srbi) constitute the largest national minority in Croatia. The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, commonly referred to as SFR Yugoslavia or simply as Yugoslavia, was a country in Central and Southeast Europe. Lika () is a traditional region of Croatia proper, roughly bound by the Velebit mountain from the southwest and the Plješevica mountain from the northeast. On the north-west end Lika is bounded by Ogulin-Plaški basin, and on the south-east by the Malovan pass. Vladimir Nazor Award
The Vladimir Nazor Award ( hr, Nagrada Vladimir Nazor) is a Croatian prize for arts and culture established in 1959 and awarded every year by the Ministry of Culture. Named after the writer Vladimir Nazor (1876–1949), the prize is awarded to Croatian artists for achievements in six different fields of art and culture, and in each category every year two separate prizes are awarded - one for life achievement (for overall contributions to their respective field), and another one, commonly referred to as the "annual award", for a single piece of outstanding work in the field created over the previous 12 months. Mary Pickford Award
The Mary Pickford Award is an honorary Satellite Award bestowed by the International Press Academy. It is "IPA's most prestigious honor" and as an award "for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to the Entertainment Industry" it reflects a lifetime of achievement. The award is named for Mary Pickford, early pioneer of the film industry, who began her career as a child actress and went on to become "America's Sweetheart" and a co-founder of United Artists Studios with fellow filmmakers Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and D. W. Griffith. The award was first presented to Rod Steiger at the 1st Golden Satellite Awards. Tom Skerritt is the latest recipient. International Press Academy
The International Press Academy (IPA) is an American association of professional entertainment journalists, representing both domestic and foreign markets in print, television, radio, cable and new media outlets. Its members have annually been giving what are now known as the Satellite Awards since January 1997. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, meet to screen the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then vote on these nominations. Fugitive Pieces (film)
''Fugitive Pieces'' is a 2007 Canadian drama film directed by Jeremy Podeswa, who also adapted the film from the novel of the same name written by Anne Michaels. The film tells the story of Jakob Beer, who is orphaned in Poland during World War II and is saved by a Greek archeologist. The film premièred 6 September 2007 as the opening film of that year's Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Cast Production ''Fugitive Pieces'' was in preproduction for seven years before filming started in various locations in Greece ( Hydra, Kefalonia, and Lesvos) and various locations in Ontario, Canada (Hamilton and Toronto) in 2006 at a cost of $CAD9.5 million.
