Rabinowitz (also Rabinowicz) (רבינוביץ), is a Polish-Lithuanian Ashkenazi Jewish surname, Slavic for "''son of the rabbi''". The Russian equivalents are Rabinovich or Rabinovitch. Moritz Rabinowitz
Moritz Moses Rabinowitz (20 September 1887 – 27 February 1942) was a retail merchant based in the city of Haugesund, Norway. Rabinowitz was active in the Jewish community in Norway and was an early opponent of Nazism. After Nazi Germany invaded Norway, Rabinowitz was arrested and moved to Germany. He was murdered in Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1942. Family Rabinowitz was born in Rajgród as a son of Isaac Levi and Chaya Rosa Rabinowitz. It is also known that he had two sisters and a younger brother. The brother – Herman Herschel – also emigrated to Norway and settled in Bergen. Rabinowitz wrote that he had witnessed "barbaric" murders during pogroms, particularly in Białystok. As long as he lived, Rabinowitz sent money to his parents in Poland. Alan Robert Rabinowitz (December 31, 1953 – August 5, 2018) was an American zoologist who served as the president, CEO, and chief scientist at Panthera Corporation, a nonprofit conservation organization devoted to protecting the world's 40 wild cat species. Called the " Indiana Jones of Wildlife Protection" by ''Time'', he studied jaguars, clouded leopards, Asiatic leopards, tigers, Sumatran rhinos, bears, leopard cats, raccoons, and civets. Jay Rabinowitz (jurist)
Jay Andrew Rabinowitz (February 25, 1927 – June 16, 2001) was an American lawyer, jurist, and chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court for four non-consecutive terms, remaining active as a justice from February 1965 until his mandatory retirement in February 1997. During his time on the Alaska Supreme Court, Rabinowitz wrote more than 1,200 court opinions, 200 of them dissenting. Rabinowitz wrote landmark opinions in cases involving privacy, reproductive freedom, search and seizure, self-incrimination, free speech, and marijuana use. Dorothy Rabinowitz is a Pulitzer Prize winning American journalist and commentator. She was born in New York City, and attained a bachelor's degree at Queens College. She worked toward a doctorate at New York University from 1957 to 1960, but did not graduate. Harry Rabinowitz MBE (26 March 1916 – 22 June 2016) was a South African-British conductor and composer of film and television music. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he was the son of Israel and Eva Rabinowitz. He was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand and at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Career Rabinowitz's musical career began as a six-week stint playing sheet music for potential customers in a Johannesburg department store. Jay Rabinowitz is an American film editor and commercial editor. He is certified by the American Cinema Editors. Rabinowitz studied at New York University, where he graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the undergraduate Cinema Studies program. During the program he learned of a film in pre-production that needed an intern, which turned out to be Jim Jarmusch's '' Down by Law'' (1986). He is credited as the assistant editor for several films in the next years, including Jarmusch's ''Mystery Train'' (1989-edited by Melody London). Chaim Shalom Tuvia Rabinowitz, also known as Reb Chaim Telzer, (1856 – 21 October 1931) was an Orthodox Lithuanian rabbi and rosh yeshiva of the Telshe yeshiva. He developed a unique method of Talmudic analysis which became renowned throughout the yeshiva world as the ''Telzer Derech''. Biography He was born in the town of Luknik, Lithuania, and studied under Rabbi Meir Simcha of Dvinsk, Rabbi Yisroel Salanter, and Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor. Joseph Rabinowitz (23 September 1837 – 17 May 1899) was a Russian missionary to the Jews, who founded the Hebrew Christian movement Novy Israel in 1882. Biography Rabinowitz was born on 23 September 1837 in Resina, Bessarabia. He was brought up as a Ḥasid, but later acquired some secular knowledge and mastered the Russian language. For a time he practised law in the lower courts of his native town, settling subsequently in Kishinev.
