Rabbi Noah Weinberg
Yisrael Noah Weinberg ( he, ישראל נח וינברג; February 16, 1930 – February 5, 2009) was an Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox Jewish rabbi and the founder of Aish HaTorah. Early life Noah Weinberg was born on the Lower East Side of New York in 1930. His father, Yitzchak Mattisyahu Weinberg was a Slonim (Hasidic dynasty), Slonimer Hasidic Judaism, Hasid, and a grandson of the first Slonim (Hasidic dynasty), Slonimer Rebbe, Avrohom Weinberg. His mother, Hinda, was a direct descendant of Yaakov Lorberbaum, Jacob ben Jacob Moses of Lissa. Weinberg studied at Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin in Brooklyn and at Yeshivas Ner Yisroel in Baltimore, where he received his semicha, rabbinic ordination. He completed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University and his post-graduate studies at Loyola University Maryland, Loyola Graduate School. Aish HaTorah
Aish HaTorah ( he, אש התורה, lit. "Fire of the Torah") is an Orthodox Jewish educational organization and yeshiva. History Aish HaTorah was established in Jerusalem in 1974 by Rabbi Noah Weinberg, after he left the Ohr Somayach yeshiva, which he had previously co-founded. The organization worked to educate young Jewish travelers and volunteers in favor of Orthodox Judaism. It later expanded worldwide, and continues promotes its extensive adult education classes. After Noah Weinberg died in February 2009, his son Rabbi Hillel Weinberg served as interim dean for a few years. In 2019, Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits was named rosh yeshiva. Philosophy Aish HaTorah describes itself as blending the traditions of the Lithuanian yeshivas with the doctrines of Hasidism. Weinberg himself was a product of Lithuanian schools but he was also a grandson of the Slonimer Rebbe.
