RTÉ 2XM
RTÉ 2XM is a digital radio station of the Irish public-service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). RTÉ 2XM is a sister station to RTÉ 2fm and focuses on alternative and indie music. The station is available nationally on Saorview Ireland's free to air DTT service, cable TV, online and via RTÉ Radio Player. History Initially RTÉ placed the station on the digital terrestrial television trial service in late October 2007. Along with five other new digital stations, RTÉ 2XM was launched on 1 December 2008. The station plays a broad range of music from rock, indie, metal, pop-punk, electronica, alternative and nu metal, as well as a focus on playing music from homegrown artists in Ireland. The station has also been known to carry a selection of live music with content from festivals across Europe. Digital Terrestrial Television In Ireland
The deployment of digital terrestrial television in Ireland has taken some time, with the first small tests being carried out in 1998. 2002 saw the cancellation and non-award of the DTT commercial licence and transmission network sale. In August 2006, a major regional DTT trial began in conjunction with major television channels in Ireland including Raidió Teilifís Éireann, TV3, TG4 and the now-defunct Channel 6. By 2008 the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland announced that three groups had come together with proposals to manage commercial DTT in Ireland. PlanetLove was an annual Northern Irish electronic music festival which was held since 1998 - with a skipped year in 2004. Held at Shane's Castle near Randalstown in County Antrim, it was previously held at Nutts Corner (also in Antrim), Kings Hall and Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast and near Cookstown in County Tyrone. Electric Picnic is an annual arts-and-music festival which has been staged since 2004 at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland. It is organised by Pod Concerts and Festival Republic, who purchased the majority shareholding in 2009. It was voted Best Medium-Sized European Festival at the 2010 European Festival Awards, and has been voted Best Big Festival at each of the last four Irish Festival Awards since they began in 2007. Oxegen
Oxegen was a music festival in Ireland, first held from 2004–2011 as a rock and pop festival and again in 2013 with dance and chart acts only. The event was regularly cited as Ireland's biggest music festival, and, by 2009, it was being cited as the greenest festival, being a 100% carbon neutral event in Ireland, although this claim is highly disputed as green-washing. It was previously called Witnness, which ran from 2000 and was sponsored by Guinness. The event is promoted by MCD and is sponsored by Heineken. Oxegen was originally a three-day festival, but from 2008 onwards, it was expanded to four days. Nu metal (sometimes stylized as nü-metal, sometimes called aggro-metal) is a subgenre of that combines elements of heavy metal music with elements of other music genres such as hip hop, alternative rock, funk, industrial, and grunge.
