Regional School Unit 57 (RSU 57), formerly known as Maine School Administrative District 57 (MSAD 57), is a school district in Maine. The district office is located in Waterboro, Maine, next to Massabesic High School. Its current superintendent is Larry Malone. Massabesic High School, Pronounced "MASS-UH-BEE-SIK" is a public high school located in Waterboro, Maine, United States. The school is part of the RSU 57 school system, which serves six southwestern Maine towns with a combined population of approximately 22,000 residents: Alfred, Limerick, Lyman, Newfield, Shapleigh and Waterboro. The school is split into two separate buildings: the West Building which serves most of the students in all grades, and the East Building which serves most of the upperclassmen (grades 11 and 12) and special education classes. Limerick (pronounced "LIM-rick") is a town in York County, Maine, United States. It is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. The population was 3,188 at the 2020 census. History This was territory of the Newichewannock Abenaki Indians, whose village was located on the Salmon Falls River. In 1668, Francis Small of Kittery, a trader, bought from Chief Captain Sunday (or Wesumbe) a large tract of land, for which he exchanged two blankets, two gallons of rum, two pounds of gunpowder, four pounds of musket balls and twenty strings of beads. Small thereupon sold half of his interest to Major Nicholas Shapleigh of Eliot, one of the wealthiest merchants in the Piscataqua region. Newfield is a town in York County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,648 at the 2020 census. The town is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford metropolitan statistical area. Newfield is home to a museum called Willowbrook Museum Village. History This was part of the large tract sold on November 28, 1668, by Newichawannock Indian Chief Sunday (or Wesumbe) to Francis Small, a Kittery trader. Shapleigh, pronounced "SHAP-lee", is a town in York County, Maine, United States which was incorporated as the state's 43rd town in 1785. The population was 2,921 at the 2020 census.
