RS600 (dinghy)
The RS600 is a sailing dinghy designed by Clive Everest and Nick Peters and supplied by RS Sailing. It is now built by the Boatyard at Beer. It is a single hander with trapeze and racks. It has a Portsmouth Yardstick of 916 and a D-PN of 76.2. Performance and design The RS600 has an epoxy hull, with aluminium racks available in 2 sizes, depending on the helm's weight. The mast is stayed, rotating, carbon fibre with a removable bottom section, allowing the mast to be shortened when the sail is reefed. Sail plan is a single Mylar fully battened main sail, with a zip in reef. In 2007, the RS600 with hydrofoils became available. Portsmouth Yardstick
The Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) or Portsmouth handicap scheme is a term used for a number of related systems of empirical handicapping used primarily in small sailboat racing. The handicap is applied to the time taken to sail any course, and the handicaps can be used with widely differing types of sailboats. Portsmouth Numbers are updated with data from race results, normally annually. The various schemes are not directly linked, and ratings for the same class can and often do vary in the different schemes. RS600FF
The RS600FF is a modification of the RS600, light-weight sailing dinghy designed by Clive Everest and Nick Peters. It differs from the conventional RS600 as it has hydrofoils. Performance and design It is a single hander with trapeze and racks, and a hydrofoil system similar to the Moth (dinghy), International Moth. The Moth's ultra light weight have made them unsuitable for heavier sailors, the RS600FF was to an extent inspired by the Moth, but being bigger and suited to heavier crews was "made over" despite it being a one design class.
