RO Tambunan
Robert Odjahan Tambunan (24 July 1935 – 5 September 2015), known as RO Tambunan, was an Indonesian lawyer veteran and politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle. Born in North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, Tambunan became famous when he became the lawyer of the Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) and for Megawati Sukarnoputri on the case of the invasion from the PDI office on July 27, 1996. The RO then led the Indonesian Democracy Defenders team (the defense team) from 1997 to 1999 that advocated the case. Indonesian Democratic Party Of Struggle
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle ( id, Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan, PDI-P) is an Indonesian political party, and the party of the current President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. The PDI-P was founded and is currently led by Megawati Sukarnoputri, president of Indonesia from 2001 to 2004, and daughter of Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia. Megawati was forced out from the leadership of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) by the government of Indonesia under Suharto in 1996. Megawati formed the PDI-P in 1999, after Suharto resigned and restrictions on political parties were lifted. The party's ideology is based on the official Indonesian national philosophy, ''Pancasila'', and is considered as conservative-left. North Sumatra
North Sumatra ( id, Sumatra Utara) is a province of Indonesia located on the northern part of the island of Sumatra. Its capital and largest city is Medan. The Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) was one of the two state-approved parties during the New Order era of the late 20th-century in Indonesia. Origins Ten political parties participated in the 1971 legislative elections, a number that President Suharto considered to be too much. Suharto wished that political parties be reduced to just two or three and that the parties should be grouped based on their programs. The basis for the merger that would result in the birth of PDI was a coalition of the five Nationalist and non-Islamic Parties in the People's Representative Council (DPR) called the Democracy Development Faction.
