RNAS Dunino (HMS Jackdaw II)
Royal Naval Air Station Dunino or more simply RNAS Dunino (HMS Jackdaw II) is a former Fleet Air Arm base located west of Kingsbarns, Fife, Scotland and south east of St Andrews, Fife. History It started life as RAF Dunino, and No. 309 Polish Fighter-Reconnaissance Squadron used the airfield from 8 May 1941 when they re-equipped with the Westland Lysander IIIA then the North American Mustang I during 1942. The squadron had detachments at RAF Gatwick, RAF Longman and RAF Findo Gask and left on 26 November 1942 going to RAF Findo Gask. The airfield was then transferred to the Royal Navy and renamed RNAS Dunino (HMS Jackdaw II). The first squadron was 825 Naval Air Squadron with the Fairey Swordfish between February and March 1943. 813 Naval Air Squadron was an aircraft squadron of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm during World War II and again post-war. It initially operated Swordfish Mk Is from the aircraft carrier '' Illustrious'' and took part in the successful raid on Taranto in November 1940. The Supermarine Walrus (originally designated the Supermarine Seagull V) was a British single-engine amphibious biplane reconnaissance aircraft designed by R. J. Fairey Barracuda
The Fairey Barracuda was a British carrier-borne torpedo and dive bomber designed by Fairey Aviation. It was the first aircraft of this type operated by the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm (FAA) to be fabricated entirely from metal. The Barracuda was developed as a replacement for the Fairey Albacore biplanes. Development was protracted due to the original powerplant intended for the type, the Rolls-Royce Exe, being cancelled. It was replaced by the less powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. On 7 December 1940, the first Fairey prototype conducted its maiden flight. Early testing revealed it to be somewhat underpowered. 825 Naval Air Squadron is a Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Naval Air Squadron which was re-commissioned on 10 October 2014 and currently flies the AgustaWestland Wildcat HMA2. RAF Findo Gask
RAF Findo Gask was a Royal Air Force satellite station located west of Perth, Scotland used during the Second World War. History RAF Findo Gask was opened on 14 June 1941 as a Flying Training Airfield. It would appear that it had three runways made of Sommerfeld Track (a form of wire netting based surface). The tower is of the "Watch Office for All Commands" (12779/41) type, with an extra floor and reduced size front windows. There were eight hangars, One T2 hangar (), three Blisters ( in height), four Dorman Long Blisters ( in height).
