RK Kvarner Rijeka (Rukometni Klub Kvarner Rijeka) was a handball club from Rijeka, Croatia, formed in 1963. It was later incorporated into Kvarner Kostrena. History RK Kvarner The club was founded 27 February 1963, as RK Kvarner. The first ever players of Kvarner were: Simeon Kosanović, Zvonko Ugrin, Slobodan Petković, Vladimir Babić, Josip Božić, Jerolim Ostojić, Marijan Lučić, Davor Amančić, Marijan Glavan, Perica Vukičević and Ivan Munitić alongside coach Eduard Domazet. The initiators where: Đuro Blim, Nikola Mikuličić, Eduard Domazet, Mladen Kopajtić, Ivo Kreculj, Branko Komljenović, Petar Grabovac, Petar Orgulić and Rajko Plivečić. During the first ten year of the club moved up the ranks from Regional leagues to the Yugoslav First League. During their time in the First league Kvarner's coach was Vlado Stenzel who was at the time also the Yugoslavian national team coach. Croatian Premier Handball League
The Croatian Handball Premier League ( hr, Hrvatska rukometna premijer liga) is the highest men's handball league in Croatia. It is organized by the Croatian Handball Federation (''Hrvatski rukometni savez''). The league comprises 16 teams. The league was formed in 1991 with the dissolution of the Yugoslav leagues. Format In the first phase, eight teams from two groups compete in a home-and-away round-robin series. All teams advance from the regular season to one of two postseason stages, depending on their league position. The top four teams from the regular season play in the Championship Round, while the bottom four teams play in the Relegation Round. At the end of the season, the bottom finisher is automatically relegated to the second league. Ivica Rimanić
Ivica Rimanić (born 3 November 1956) is a former Croatian handball player. Career Ivica Rimanić started his senior career in 1972 at RK Zamet. After playing 2 years for Zamet he moved to rivals RK Kvarner. With Kvarner Rimarić was part of the team that got Kvarner promoted to the Yugoslav First League. After one season in the first tier Kvarner was relegated. After the relegation Rimanić moved back to Zamet where he spent the next seven years. In 1977 Zamet was promoted to the Yugoslav Second League and in 1978 they were promoted to the Yugoslav First League. At this time Rimanić was also the club's treasurer and coach of the youth team. In 1979 Zamet was relegated back to the Second League. The same season Rimanić was called up to play for the Yugoslav national team at the Karpat Cup and Cup of Zaria Vastoka. Marijan Seđak
Marijan Seđak (born 24 March 1952 in Bjelovar) is a former Croatian Team handball, handball player and Team handball, handball coach. Career Marijan Seđak grew up in Rijeka and started his handball career in RK Zamet, Partizan Zamet. After winning the regional league in his first season he was invited by Vlado Stenzel to join RK Kvarner in the Yugoslav Handball Championship, Yugoslav First League. Wanting to concentrate more on his studies at the time Seđak returned to RK Zamet, Partizan Zamet who were then still in the third tier. He played for the club until 1978. In that time the club moved from the third to the first tier. Seđak retired from playing handball but stayed on as assistant coach for one more season. Jurica Lakić
Jurica Lakić (11 May 1953 - 9 September 1982) is a former Croatian handball player. Career Jurica Lakić was born on 11 May 1953. He started playing handball in RK Dubovac. He started his senior career in RK Dubovac at the age of 15. In 1970 Lakić moved to RK Kvarner in Rijeka on the call of head coach Vlado Stenzel and played in the golden generation of Kvarner in the Yugoslav First League. In 1972 Lakić played for the national team of SR Croatia and a year later he made 5 appearances for Yugoslavia. Lakić was a key player in RK Kvarner all throughout his six year stay. In 1975 after the departure of Ivan Munitić he coached the team for a couple of months. Boris Komucki
Boris Komuczki (born 28 December 1956 in Rijeka) is a former Croatian handball player and coach. Playing career Komucki started playing handball at a young age in primary school in Trsat. He soon moved to RK Kvarner where he started his handball career. He was supposed to play for the Yugoslav national team at the 1978 World Championship but couldn't due to mandatory military service. In 1979 after being stripped the captain's arm band he moved to city rivals RK Zamet. With Zamet Komucki demolished his former club, won the city rivalry to the extent that Kvarner admitted defeat in writing. In 1981 Komucki spent a season in Belgrade playing for RK Crvena Zvezda and a season in Banja Luka with Borac. Komucki had one more spell at RK Zamet where they almost entered the Yugoslav First League being one point short from Jugović Kać. Roberto Sošić
Roberto Sošić is a Croatian former handball player. Sošić was born in Rovinj, Istria (now Croatia, at the time Yugoslavia). He joined RK Zamet, based in Rijeka, in the early part of his career. Sošić played for many years in RK Zamet, and he's considered one of the most important players in the club's history, being, together with Jurica Lakić, Alvaro Načinović, Vlado Vukoje, and Mateo Hrvatin one of Zamet's only five players who managed to play for Yugoslavia men's national handball team, Yugoslavia's national team. Božidar Peter
Božidar Peter (3 March 1938 – 24 April 2012) was a former Croatian Team handball, handball player, coach and journalist. Peter was part of the first successful generation of RK Bjelovar, Partizan Bjelovar. With the club he won the Yugoslav Handball Championship, Yugoslav First League three time, the Yugoslav Handball Championship, Yugoslav Cup once and got to the final of the EHF Champions League, European Champions Cup in 1961–62 European Cup (handball), 1962 where they lost to Frisch Auf Göppingen. Ivan Munitić
Ivan Munitić (born 7 April 1942) is a former Croatian handball player and handball coach. Playing career Munitić started playing handball in RK Partizan Zamet. In 1963 he transferred to newly established Kvarner Rijeka and was part of their first ever squad. He later returned to Zamet but opted to end his playing career in Kvarner. Coaching career During his last playing season he was also the assistant coach of the team alongside head coach Božo Peter. He was also in the coaching staff for Vlado Stenzel from 1970 to 1973 while finishing his coaching degree. In 1973 he became the head coach of RK Kvarner and he coached his side into the Yugoslav First League. After leaving Kvarner Munitić also coached Kolinska Slovan for two seasons and entered the Yugoslav First League. Perica Vukičević (born 29 September 1942) is a former Croatian Team handball, handball player. Vukičević is one of the original players of RK Kvarner. He was also part of the golden generation of Kvarner which was led by Vlado Stenzel in the Yugoslav Handball Championship, Yugoslav First League from 1970-1974.
