Rokometni klub Celje ( en, Celje Handball Club), currently named Celje Pivovarna Laško due to sponsorship reasons, and commonly referred to as RK Celje or simply Celje, is a handball club from Celje, Slovenia. They were the winners of the Champions League in the 2003–04 season, becoming European club champions by defeating the German club SG Flensburg-Handewitt. The team plays its home matches in the Zlatorog Arena, a 5,191 capacity multi-purpose arena in Celje. History The first handball match in Celje was played in 1942. After World War II, handball became the most popular sport in this Slovenian town. By May 1945, there were already two established teams in Celje: Celje and Olimp. The two teams were city rivals and played multiple matches against each other. Therefore, the year 1946 is marked as the official beginning of handball in Celje. Laško Brewery
Laško Brewery ( sl, Pivovarna Laško) is the largest brewery in Slovenia. It is located in Laško and named after the town. The brewery was founded in 1825 by Franz Geyer, a gingerbread baker and mead producer. After World War II ended in 1945, Laško was the fifth-largest in Yugoslavia, and by 1991 it was the largest among 28 Yugoslav breweries. It lost much of the Yugoslav market in 1991 after Slovenia declared independence and during the resulting Ten-Day War, although sales rebounded during the 1990s. RK Metaloplastika () is a Serbian handball club based in Šabac. They compete in the Serbian Handball Super League. History The club itself dates back to 1958. They initially competed under the name Partizan. In 1970, the club changed its name to Metaloplastika after being taken over by the industrial company of the same name. They earned promotion to the Yugoslav Championship in 1974. The club won its first trophy, the Yugoslav Cup, in the 1979–80 season, securing a spot in European competitions for the first time ever.
