RCSI Hospitals ( ga, Ospidéil RCSI) is one of the hospital groups established by the Health Service Executive in Ireland. History The grouping of hospitals was announced by the Irish Minister for Health, Dr. James Reilly TD in May 2013, as part of a restructure of Irish public hospitals and a goal of delivering better patient care. Health Service Executive
The Health Service Executive (HSE) ( ga, Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte) is the publicly funded healthcare system in Ireland, responsible for the provision of health and personal social services. It came into operation on 1 January 2005. The current Director-General is Stephen Mulvany on an interim basis, after Paul Reid stepped down in October 2022. The new Director General, Bernard Gloster, will take up the role in Spring 2023. History The Executive was established by the Health Act 2004 and came into official operation on 1 January 2005. It replaced the ten regional Health Boards, the Eastern Regional Health Authority and a number of other different agencies and organisations. James Reilly (Irish Politician)
James Reilly (born 16 August 1955) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician, businessman and medical doctor who served as a Senator from May 2016 to March 2020. He previously served as Acting Minister for Children and Youth Affairs from February to May 2016, Minister for Health from March 2011 to July 2014 and deputy leader of Fine Gael from 2010 to 2017. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency from 2007 to 2016. He subsequently announced his retirement from politics after he lost his bid for election for his old seat at the 2020 general election. Personal life Reilly graduated with a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1979 and is a qualified General Practitioner. Beaumont Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Beaumont) is a large teaching hospital located in Beaumont, Dublin, Ireland. It is managed by RCSI Hospitals - one of the hospital groups established by the Health Service Executive. Its academic partner is the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. St. Joseph's Hospital (Raheny) is also under the management of the Beaumont Hospital Board. History The planning for the hospital, which was commissioned to replace the Richmond Surgical Hospital and the Jervis Street Hospital began in 1977. The design was based on the scheme for the Cork University Hospital. It was built at a cost of €52.7 million and was officially opened on 29 November 1987. Beaumont Hospital took over management of St. Joseph's Hospital in Raheny in August 2004. The Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown ( ga, Ospidéal Uí Chonghaile Baile Bhlainséir) is a teaching hospital in Blanchardstown, Dublin, Ireland. It is managed by RCSI Hospitals. History The hospital, which was initially established as a tuberculosis sanitarium, was designed by Norman White and constructed by Sisk Builders. It was named in memory of the Irish republican leader, James Connolly, and officially opened as the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in 1955. Following the introduction of effective antibiotic treatment, the hospital was re-designated as a general hospital for the North West area of Dublin and re-opened as such in 1973. Blanchardstown () is a large outer suburb of Dublin in the modern Counties of Ireland, county of Fingal, Ireland. Located northwest of Dublin city centre, it has developed since the 1960s from a small village to a point where Greater Blanchardstown is the largest urban area in Fingal. Rotunda Hospital
The Rotunda Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal an Rotunda; legally the Hospital for the Relief of Poor Lying-in Women, Dublin) is a maternity hospital on Parnell Street in Dublin, Ireland, now managed by RCSI Hospitals. The eponymous Rotunda in Parnell Square is no longer a part of the hospital complex. History The hospital was founded by Bartholomew Mosse, a surgeon and midwife who was appalled at the conditions that pregnant women had to endure, in George's Lane in March 1745. It was granted by Royal Charter on 2 December 1756 by King George II. Lying-in is an archaic term for childbirth (referring to the month-long bed rest prescribed for postpartum confinement). The venture was very successful and Mosse raised money through concerts, exhibitions and even a lottery to establish larger premises. Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Mhuire Lourdes) is a public hospital located in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. It is managed by RCSI Hospitals. History The hospital, which was commissioned on the initiative of Mother Mary Martin of the Medical Missionaries of Mary, was opened as Our Lady of Lourdes International Missionary Training Hospital in 1955. Cavan General Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Ginearálta an Chabháin) is a public hospital located in Cavan, County Cavan, Ireland. It is managed by RCSI Hospitals. History The hospital was officially opened by Rory O'Hanlon, Minister for Health, in 1989. Monaghan Hospital
Monaghan General Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Mhuineacháin) is a hospital in the town of Monaghan, County Monaghan, Ireland. History and operations The hospital has its origins in several of the former Monaghan County Jail buildings which were converted for clinical use as Monaghan Infirmary after purchase in the 1890s by a Board of Governors for a local medical facility. The first infirmary opened in 1896. The old main jail building was razed and the building of a new County Hospital commenced in 1933. The purpose-built hospital was officially opened on the site in 1938.
