Route The R509 begins at a t-junction with the N4 (Platinum Highway) in the town of Swartruggens, North West (east of the town centre). It begins by going south-east for 32 kilometres to the town of Koster, where it crosses the R52 at a staggered intersection. From Koster, it continues east-south-east for 17 kilometres to the town of Derby, where it intersects with the R30. From Derby, the R509 continues eastwards for 59 kilometers to meet the northern terminus of the R500. Location The town is located by the Elands River, 69 km from the town of Zeerust, 56 km west of the city of Rustenburg and 34 km north-west of Koster. N4 Road (South Africa)
The N4 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Skilpadshek on the Botswana border, past Rustenburg, Pretoria, eMalahleni and Mbombela, to Komatipoort on the Mozambique border. It forms the South African section of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, which runs from Walvis Bay to Maputo, meaning that it links the east and west coasts of Southern Africa. Since the completion of the A2 through Botswana, the entire Corridor is now a world-class standard highway; it features at least one carriageway in each direction of high-speed traffic plus a paved shoulder for its entire length. The South African section can be divided into two parts with Pretoria in the middle. Platinum Highway
The Platinum Highway is part of the N4, and a major South African highway built under concessions with a private contractor. In 2001, the project was voted Infrastructure Deal of the Year by Project Finance International Magazine. It took eight years to complete. The highway is part of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, which links four African countries (Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia) and two oceans (the Indian and Atlantic). The contract had tougher concession terms than were seen in previous contracts. The ''Platinum Highway'' is the section of the N4 from the Skilpadshek Border with Botswana, through Zeerust, Swartruggens, Rustenburg and Brits, to the interchange with the N1 in Pretoria (Tshwane). The concessionaire responsible for this road is Bakwena and the entire route is a toll road. The R52 is a provincial route in North West, South Africa that connects Biesiesvlei with Rustenburg via Lichtenburg and Koster. Route The R52 begins in Biesiesvlei (20 kilometres north-east of Sannieshof), at a junction with the N14 National Route. It begins by going north-east for 36 kilometres, through Itekeng, to the town of Lichtenburg. It reaches a junction with the R503 Route and the R505 Route (Nelson Mandela Drive). All 3 routes form one road northwards through the Lichtenburg CBD as Nelson Mandela Drive up to the junction with Gerrit Maritz Street, where the R52 splits from the R503/R505 to become Gerrit Maritz Street eastwards. The R30 is a provincial route in South Africa that connects Bloemfontein with Rustenburg via Brandfort, Welkom, Bothaville, Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp. The southern part of the route is tolled, as the R30 forms the first section of the ZR Mahabane Toll Route, with the Brandfort Toll Plaza found 10 kilometres north of its Southern junction with the N1 National Route. The tolled portion ends at the junction with the R730. The R500 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Magaliesburg with Parys via Carletonville and Fochville. Route The R500 begins in the North West, 10 kilometres west of Magaliesburg, at a junction with the R509, going southwards. After 2 kilometres, it crosses into Gauteng province. From the R509 junction, it goes southwards for 21 kilometres to reach a junction with the N14 National Route. It proceeds southwards for a further 3 kilometres to meet the western end of the R41 Route from Randfontein.
