Rycroft, Alberta
Rycroft is a village in northern Alberta, Canada. It is approximately north of Grande Prairie and east of Spirit River. Dunvegan Provincial Park is located 20 km north of the community. The post office was originally known as Spirit River. The name was changed to Roycroft in 1920 to honour R.H. Roycroft, a prominent local citizen, and was altered to Rycroft in 1933. William Rycroft
Sir William Henry Rycroft (1861 – 1925) was a British army officer who rose to the rank of Major-General, and colonial governor of British North Borneo. Biography Rycroft was the second of six children of Sir Nelson Rycroft, 4th Baronet, and his wife Juliana Ogilvy. His elder brother Richard became the 5th baronet. Rycroft was educated at Eton College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He enlisted in the British Army in 1871. In 1879 he was appointed to the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot which became part of the Highland Light Infantry in 1881. He took part in the Gordon Relief Expedition in 1884–85. He transferred to the 7th Dragoon Guards in 1886, attended the Staff College, Camberley, 1891–1892, was Deputy Assistant Adjutant General at York 1895–1896, served on the North-West Frontier in India 1897–1898 and served on the Staff during the South African War 1899–1900. Philip John Rycroft (born 22 May 1961) is a British civil servant who served as the Permanent Secretary at the Department for Exiting the European Union from 2017 to 2019. Early life and education Rycroft was born on 22 May 1961. He was educated at The Leys School, then an all-boys independent school in Cambridge. He studied at Wadham College, Oxford, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree: as per tradition, his BA was promoted to a Master of Arts (MA Oxon). He remained at the University of Oxford to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree. Fast Food Rockers were a British pop group known briefly for their novelty music. The band met at a fast-food convention in Folkestone in the summer of 2003. Career Their most successful hit was their 2003 release " Fast Food Song", which parodies the traditional folk melody " A Ram Sam Sam". The Dutch DJ Eric Dikeb claims to have made a Dutch song out of that traditional melody in 2001, called "Pizzahaha", explaining that at that moment, he was taking part in the Dutch television show ''Big Diet'', in which contestants had to lose as much weight as they could over a few months. Dikeb further claims to have come up with the idea to use the names of his favourite fast-food restaurants in the song. Pizzahaha did not make it to the Dutch charts, but in Belgium the band Dynamite made a big hit out of it, with a Belgian version called "De Pizzadans". Mark A. Rycroft (born July 12, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche. Rycroft is currently a TV studio analyst for Altitude Sports and Entertainment, the local affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. Playing career Prior to playing professional hockey, Rycroft played two seasons with Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and three collegiate seasons at the University of Denver.
