Rut (mammalian Reproduction)
The rut (from the Latin ''rugire'', meaning "to roar") is the mating season of certain mammals, which includes ruminants such as deer, sheep, camels, goats, pronghorns, bison, giraffes and antelopes, and extends to others such as skunks and elephants. The rut is characterized in males by an increase in testosterone, exaggerated sexual dimorphisms, increased aggression, and increased interest in females. The males of the species may mark themselves with mud, undergo physiological changes or perform characteristic displays in order to make themselves more visually appealing to the females. Males also use olfaction to entice females to mate using secretions from glands and self-anointing in animals, soaking in their own urine. During the rut (known as the ''rutting period'' and in domestic sheep management as ''Glossary of sheep husbandry, tupping''), males often rub their antlers or horn (anatomy), horns on trees or shrubs, fight with each other, Wallowing in animals, wallow in mud o ...

Rut (roads)
A rut is a depression or groove worn into a road or path by the travel of wheels or skis. Ruts can be formed by wear, as from studded snow tires common in cold climate areas, or they can form through the deformation of the asphalt concrete, pavement or subbase material. In modern roads the main cause is heavily loaded trucks. These heavy loaded trucks imprint their tire impressions on roads over time, causing ruts. Rut is a common pavement distress and is often used in pavement performance modeling. Ruts prevent rainwater from flowing to the side of the road into ditches or gutters. Rainwater trapped in ruts is a common contributing factor to hydroplaning crashes. Severe ruts can impede steering if a vehicle has difficulty steering out of the rut. If it proves impossible to steer out of a rut, though forward and backward progress can be made by the vehicle, it is referred to as being stuck in the rut. Ruts in gravel roads can be removed by grading the road surface. Ruts in asph ...

Rut, Tolmin
Rut (; formerly ''Nemški Rut'' or ''Nemška Koritnica'', german: Deutschruth; it, Rutte di Gracova) is a village north of Koritnica in the Municipality of Tolmin in the Littoral region of Slovenia. Name Rut was attested in historical sources as ''Corithnich Reutharius'' in 1310, ''Cordnitze super Tulminum'' in 1480, ''Krytha bey der Pfarr'' in 1515, ''Coriniza di Baza'' in 1566, and ''Teutsch Coritniza'' in 1624, among many other names. It was labeled ''D. Ober Koritniza oder Deutsch Greuth'' in the late-18th-century Josephinian Land Survey. The Slovene name ''Rut'' is derived from the Slovene common noun ''rut'', referring to a meadow on cleared land in a hilly environment. The Slovene noun is a borrowing from Middle High German ''rut'' 'clearing'. The older name of the village, ''Nemški Rut'' (literally, 'German Rut'), refers to the community of German speakers that formerly lived there. The Slovene name of the village was changed from ''Nemški Rut'' to ''Rut'' after the Sec ...

The Ruts
The Ruts (later known as Ruts DC) are an English reggae-influenced punk rock band, notable for the 1979 UK top 10 hit single "Babylon's Burning", and an earlier single "In a Rut", which was not a hit but was highly regarded and regularly played by BBC Radio 1 disc jockey John Peel. The band's newfound success was cut short by the death of lead singer Malcolm Owen from a heroin overdose in 1980. Despite this the band continued under a different musical style as Ruts D.C. until 1983 when they disbanded, the band later reformed in 2007. Career Formation and early days The Ruts were formed on 18 August 1977 and played their first gig at the Target pub in Northolt, Middlesex. The band consisted of singer Malcolm Owen, guitarist Paul Fox, bass player John "Segs" Jennings and drummer Dave Ruffy who moved from bass to drums after original drummer Paul Mattocks left, and were active in anti-racist causes as part of the Misty in Roots People Unite collective based in Southall, West L ...

"Rut" is a song by American rock band the Killers from their fifth studio album, '' Wonderful Wonderful'' (2017). It was serviced to UK hot adult contemporary radio on December 9, 2017, as the album's third and final single. The single peaked at number 10 on the New Zealand Heatseeker Singles chart. Composition In an episode of the ''Song Exploder'' podcast on October 6, 2017, Brandon Flowers explained that the lyrics of "Rut" were inspired by his wife, Tana Mundkowsky, who struggles with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to a traumatizing childhood. "The song is from my wife's point of view, and it's from her perspective. And it's about resilience. So, she's singing to me. It's almost like this submission, it's her accepting like, 'I'm facing this thing'", Flowers ...
