Russell is a town in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,279 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Red Cliff and Sand Bay are located in Russell. Red Cliff is the administrative center of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. York Island and Raspberry Island (of the Apostle Islands) are part of the town. Transportation Wisconsin Highway 13 serves as a main route in the community. Russell is a town in Lincoln County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 677 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Gleason and Dudley are located in the town. The unincorporated community of Bloomville is also located partially in the town. Geography Russell is on the eastern side of Lincoln County and is bordered to the east by Langlade County. Wisconsin Highway 17 crosses the town, passing through Bloomville, Gleason, and Dudley. The highway leads north to Rhinelander and southwest to Merrill, the Lincoln county seat. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Russell has a total area of , of which are land and , or 1.48%, are water. The town is drained by the Prairie River, a southwest-flowing tributary of the Wisconsin River. The unincorporated community of Hulls Crossing is in the town, as is part of the unincorporated community of St. Anna. History The town was named for one of the original settlers, John Russell, in 1852.
