The Rural Municipality of St. François Xavier is a rural municipality in Manitoba, Canada, lying west-northwest of Winnipeg. It is part of the Central Plains Region as well as the Winnipeg Metro Region. It had a population of 1,411 in the 2016 census. It is home to the community of St. François Xavier, the second oldest settlement in Manitoba. History The area around current-day St. François, commonly known as White Horse Plain (named after a local legend; ), was inhabited by First Nations peoples such as the Cree and Sioux. Around 1824, Métis leader Cuthbert Grant received a land grant on White Horse Plain and founded a settlement. He was soon joined by a number of Métis families. Headingley (sometimes spelled Headingly) is a rural municipality in Manitoba, Canada. It is located directly west of Winnipeg and had a population of 3,579 people as of the 2016 census. The Trans-Canada Highway and the Assiniboine River run through the municipality. The unincorporated community of Headingley is situated within the municipality along Manitoba Provincial Road 334 near the Trans-Canada Highway. Rosser is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba, lying adjacent to the northwest side of Winnipeg and part of the Winnipeg Metro Region. Its population as of the 2016 Census was 1,372. It is situated along Provincial Trunk Highway 6, and Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway. CentrePort Canada lies primarily in the eastern part of the RM, inside the Perimeter Highway. A small portion of Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport also lies within the RM of Rosser. Water services are provided by the Cartier Regional Water Cooperative. Pierre Falcon
Pierre Falcon (sometimes referred to as Pierriche, meaning 'Pierre the rhymer'; 4 June 1793 – 21 October 1876) was a Métis fur trader and pioneer living in what is today known as Manitoba. He was also a well known composer and singer. Falcon Lake located in the Whiteshell Provincial Park in south-eastern Manitoba was named after Pierre Falcon. Early life Pierre Falcon was born at Somerset House, also called Elbow Fort, in the Swan River Valley, on 4 June 1793. His father, Pierre Jean-Baptiste Falcon was a fur trader and clerk with the North West Company in the Red River district and his mother was a Cree Woman, the daughter of Pas au Traverse. Patrice Breland
Patrice Breland (March 17, 1837 – April 3, 1908) was a fur trader and political figure in Manitoba. He represented St. Francois Xavier from 1879 to 1883 in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as a Conservative. He was born in St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba, the son of Pascal Breland and Maria Grant. He was the grandson of Cuthbert Grant. Patrice was one of the many who signed the Cypress Hills Métis Hunting Brigade Petition in 1878. Pascal Breland was a famous 19th-century pre-confederation Canadian Métis farmer and politician. He was a well-known Metis trader and was popularly nicknamed "le Roi des traiteurs" (The King of the traders). He held several appointed political positions as well as elected offices, with his work and influence playing a key role in shaping the identity of Western Canadian provinces as they exist today. The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016.
