Rural Municipality Of Clanwilliam
The Rural Municipality of Clanwilliam is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on December 22, 1883. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the Town of Erickson to form the Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson. The RM was located in an area of mixed farming positioned on the southeast side of Riding Mountain National Park. The southern part of the RM was flatter farmland while the northern part was more rugged with many hills, forests and lakes. This area is a nesting area for various species of ducks and also a major flyway for geese. The communities of Hilltop and Scandinavia were formed by Swedish settlers in the late 19th century. The RM took its name from the community of Clanwilliam to the south, which is now located in the Rural Municipality of Minto-Odanah. The Rural Municipality of Minto-Odanah is a List of rural municipalities in Manitoba, rural municipality (RM) in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba that incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RMs of Rural Municipality of Minto, Minto and Rural Municipality of Odanah, Odanah. It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. Hilltop, Manitoba
Hilltop is a rural community in the Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson and is a mixed agricultural area. Historically, the area was settled by Scandinavian immigrants, mainly from Sweden, starting in the 1880s. The community opened a post office in 1900 located on 19-17-17W and a one-room school was located on NE 24-17-18W. The other establishment which still is operational is a Baptist church founded by the early settlers and named after the locality. Richard Meade, 4th Earl Of Clanwilliam
Admiral of the Fleet Richard James Meade, 4th Earl of Clanwilliam (3 October 1832 – 4 August 1907), styled Lord Gillford until 1879, was a Royal Navy officer. As a junior officer, he served at the Battle of Escape Creek and at the Battle of Fatshan Creek during the campaign against Chinese pirates. He also took part in the Battle of Canton, where he was severely wounded, during the Second Opium War. As a senior officer Meade went on to be commander of the Steamship reserve at Portsmouth, commander of the Flying Squadron and Commander-in-Chief, North America and West Indies Station. Clanwilliam, Manitoba is a community in the Rural Municipality of Minto-Odanah in Manitoba, Canada. The Municipality of Clanwilliam – Erickson immediately north takes its name from the community. Clanwilliam is in a mainly agricultural area located north of Minnedosa along PR 262. A post office was opened there in 1882 and was originally identified as ''Clan William'' (30-16-17W). A rural municipality (RM) is a type of incorporated municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. Riding Mountain National Park
Riding Mountain National Park is a national park in Manitoba, Canada. The park is located within Treaty 2 Territory and sits atop the Manitoba Escarpment. Consisting of a protected area , the forested parkland stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding prairie farmland.
