Zambia national rugby union team The Zambia Rugby National team is a third-tier rugby union side representing Zambia. Official Name: ZAMBIA RUGBY UNION President:General Clement Sinkamba General Secretary: Musunka Silungwe The first national Zambian side was put together in 1965 under Presidency of Dr K K Kaunda who was their first Patron. Jackie Kyle the Irish International was the President of the Union. Their first game was against a Combined Services side from the UK and Zambia won the game 56-9 in Kitwe. An invitational side toured Ireland in 1965 played 9 and won 7 - points for 115 against 92. Originally the Tanzanian Rugby Football Union was incorporated into the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) in 1956. The Rugby Africa Cup is a two-year men's rugby union tournament involving the top 16 African nations based on their World Rugby rankings, it is organised by Rugby Africa. The tournament was first held in 2000. It was renamed the Rugby Africa Cup in November 2019, it was previously called the Africa Cup since 2006, the CAR Top 9 and CAR Top 10. Due to South Africa being far stronger than any other African nation, South African teams have only competed five times, and won the competition three times. The winning South African teams on these occasions were the under 23 or amateur players (in 2005, 2006 and 2007). Max Brito (8 April 1968 – 19 December 2022) was an Ivorian rugby union player on the Ivory Coast national rugby union team, Ivory Coast rugby team. As a result of injuries sustained at the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa, he was paralysis, paralysed. As of 2007, he could only move his head, torso and an arm. Career Brito played as a Winger (sport)#Rugby league and rugby union, winger, and spent his career playing for Biscarrosse Olympique in the Fédérale 3 division of French rugby. An electrician by trade, he was noticeable on the field for his long dreadlocks as well as his brave play. In qualifying for the 2007 Rugby World Cup, there is one place available for African teams, and one place in the repechage. In the group rounds, there are three points awarded for a win, two for a draw, and one for a loss. There are no bonus points awarded. The Rugby World Cup is a men's rugby union tournament contested every four years between the top international teams.
