Rugby league is a team sport played in Italy. History Rugby league was established in Italy prior to the 1950s, during which they played a host of other European teams. Jean Galia's efforts in the mid-1930s to persuade his fellow countrymen in France to adopt rugby league soon attracted the attention of a trainee commercial lawyer and rugby union player in Turin, Vincenzo Bertolotto. But an exhibition game suggested for Rome did not materialise. But after the Second World War, discontent with the policies of the Italian rugby union in refusing to strengthen their game to put it on a level with France, led to thoughts of alternatives and the Italian Rugby League was launched in 1950 after several years of talks between then RFL secretary, Bill Fallowfield, and a group of Italian rugby union dissidents. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. The Italian Rugby Federation ( it, Federazione Italiana Rugby) or FIR is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in Italy. The r-Evolution League as managed by the Federazione Italiana Rugby Football League (FIRFL) is a national amateur rugby league competition in Italy that began on June 19, 2010. The competition has attracted a number professional sports, professional and semi professional sports, semi-professional rugby union players from Italy. The European Rugby League (ERL) is the umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football across Europe. On 11 July 1998 the first ever 13 a side rugby league match was played between Italia and Lebanon, which took place at Leichhardt Oval - Sydney - Australia, the match was known as 'The Mediterranean Cup'. A crowd of almost 10,000 watched as these two emerging nations battled it out in a torrid affair. Former first grade players such as Frank Napoli, Chris St Clair, John Elias, David Baysarri and Darren Maroon represented their country of origin. Lebanon National Rugby League Team
The Lebanon national rugby league team (Arabic: المنتخب اللبناني للرجبي ليغ) represents Lebanon in rugby league football. Nicknamed "the Cedars" after the Lebanese cedar tree, the team was formed by Lebanese Australians in 1997 and have been administered by the Lebanese Rugby League Federation since 2002. Stadio Omobono Tenni () is a football stadium in Treviso, Italy. It is currently the home of Treviso F.B.C. 1993. The stadium was built in 1933 and holds 10,001. After the inauguration in 1933, a friendly match between Treviso F.B.C. and Udinese was held, which was followed by a friendly against the Italian National Team.
