The Royal Flying Doctor Service or RFDS, was an Australian television series on the Nine Network based on the work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. Overview The series follows the daily working lives of RFDS personnel in Broken Hill and Dubbo, documenting their operations as they respond to emergencies. Broadcast history The first two episodes of the program were broadcast on 24 September and 1 October 2007 before being pulled from the schedule. Nine then scheduled the remainder of the series at 7:00 Sunday from 16 March 2008. Steve Bisley
Steve Bisley (born 26 December 1951) is an Australian writer, film and television actor. He is best known for his roles in the films ''Mad Max'' and ''The Great Gatsby''. On TV, some of his better-known roles include Detective Sergeant Jack Christey on '' Water Rats'' and Jim Knight on '' Doctor Doctor''. Early life Bisley was born at Lake Munmorah, New South Wales and grew up on a small farm called Stillways. The son of schoolteachers, he moved to Sydney just after his seventeenth birthday. After a few years of working in various jobs, he enrolled in the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), graduating with a degree in acting in 1977. Other actors in his class included Mel Gibson, Judy Davis, Debra Lawrance and Sally McKenzie. It is a non-profit organisation that provides emergency and primary health care services for those living in rural, remote and regional areas of Australia who cannot access a hospital or general practice due to the vast distances of the Outback. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. ''RFDS: Royal Flying Doctor Service'' is an Australian drama television series which centres around the lives of workers for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Commissioned by the Seven Network and produced by Endemol Shine Australia, it began airing on 11 August 2021. The series was renewed for a second season in June 2022 to commence screening on 15 August 2023. The series was renewed for a third season during the 2023 Channel 7 Upfronts. ''The Flying Doctors'' is an Australian drama TV series produced by Crawford Productions that revolves around the everyday lifesaving efforts of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, starring Andrew McFarlane as the newly arrived Dr. Tom Callaghan. The popular series ran for nine seasons and was successfully screened internationally. It was initially a 1985 mini-series based in the fictional outback town of Cooper's Crossing (set in the real life town of Minyip in north-western rural Victoria). The success of the mini-series led to its return the following year as an ongoing series with McFarlane being joined by a new doctor, Chris Randall, played by Liz Burch.
