Roy's Motel And Café
Roy's Motel and Café is a motel, café, gas station and auto repair shop, defunct for many years but now being largely restored, on the National Trails Highway of U.S. Route 66 in the Mojave Desert town of Amboy in San Bernardino County, California. The historic site is an example of roadside Mid-Century Modern Googie architecture. The entire town of Amboy – including the mostly defunct Roy's complex – is owned by and under the stewardship of a private preservationist. History As a Route 66 stop In 1938, founder Roy Crowl opened Roy's as a gas and service station along U.S. Highway 66, in Amboy. At the time, Route 66 – the "Main Street of America" – was the primary east-west highway artery crossing the nation from Chicago through the Southwest to Los Angeles. The construction of Roy's was one consequence of a Route 66 realignment through Mountain Springs Summit, bypassing Goffs to directly connect Needles and Essex, and continuing west to Amboy. 5-Methyl-2-((2-nitrophenyl)amino)-3-thiophenecarbonitrile
5-Methyl-2-[(2-nitrophenyl)amino]-3-thiophenecarbonitrile, also known as ROY (red-orange-yellow), is an organic compound which is a chemical intermediate to the drug olanzapine. It has been the subject of intensive study because it can exist in multiple well-characterised crystalline Polymorphism (materials science), polymorphic forms. Synthesis The preparation of ROY was first disclosed in a series of patents from Eli Lilly and Company, Eli Lilly & Co. in the 1990s, which covered the pharmaceutical active ingredient later marketed as olanzapine. In the first step, a Gewald reaction using propionaldehyde, sulfur and malononitrile formed the thiophene ring system, as 2-amino-5-methylthiophene-3-carbonitrile. The amino group was then reacted with 2-fluoro-nitrobenzene in tetrahydrofuran to provide 5-methyl-2-[(2-nitrophenyl)amino]-3-thiophenecarbonitrile. : Polymorphism ROY has been crystallised in at least thirteen polymorphic forms. Five of them, including red, orange and ye ...

Roy, Washington
Roy is a city in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 816 at the 2020 census. History Roy was officially incorporated on January 16, 1908. It is a rural city outside Tacoma and primarily features ranch-style homes and farms. Roy was one of the early communities in the area, a prosperous boom-town and a major stop on the railroad line. But 3 major blows reduced this once-thriving town to its current form. A major fire in 1929 wiped out most of the downtown businesses just before the Depression started. The railroad eventually discontinued using Roy as a main stop. The Army annexed most of the surrounding land to the north and west, limiting expansion and the local tax base, and erasing the nearby community of Loveland. Major features and/or attractions in Roy and the vicinity include the Roy Pioneer Rodeo, attracting participants and spectators from several states and Canada.
