Rowlands Castle railway station serves the village of Rowland's Castle, Hampshire, England. It is located on the Portsmouth Direct Line, down the line from via Woking. History The main station building, dating to 1859, was designed by William Tite and is Grade II listed. The station was once one of three between Petersfield and Havant, but is the only one to have enjoyed a regular service. , to the south, was a temporary station built during an inter-company dispute - the Battle of Havant; Woodcroft Halt, to the north, was open for a few years round World War 2, mainly for service personnel. Formerly there were goods and coal sidings trailing off the Up Line at the Petersfield end of the station. There was only one crossover between the two running lines, which meant that goods trains that arrived from the Petersfield direction (usually on the 0450 Goods Woking to Rowland's Castle) had to "set-back" into the headshunt and "fly shunt" (i.e. run off) wagons into the sidings ...

Rowland's Castle
Rowland's Castle is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is 2.9 miles (4.7 km) north of Havant, on the Hampshire/West Sussex border. The focal point of the village is the village green which is shaped somewhat like a lung. Surrounded by roads it is about long and about wide at its eastern end while tapering to almost a point at the western end near the railway arch. The village takes its name from a motte-and-bailey castle, the remains of which are situated to the south of Redhill Road and west of the railway line, east of the current centre of the village. Petersfield Railway Station
Petersfield railway station serves the market town of Petersfield, Hampshire, England. It is on the Portsmouth Direct line, down the line from via Woking. The station The station has two tracks, and two platforms, although in the past had a third platform branching into the coal yard situated adjacent to the station and a fourth platform on the north side of the level crossing serving the branch to Midhurst closed in 1955. The main buildings date back to the opening of the line in 1859 and are of a "town" type, larger than other wayside stations on the route but identical to Godalming. The signal box, situated by the level crossing at the north-east end of the station, is an LSWR Type 3a box and a Grade II listed building. Woodcroft Halt
Woodcroft Halt railway station was a former railway halt located in the parish of Buriton between Rowlands Castle and Petersfield on the Portsmouth Direct Line. History During World War II, in 1940, the Admiralty requisitioned Ditcham Park, a nearby country house for use as a convalescent home for sailors (the house is now a private school). The halt was built to serve Ditcham Park, principally for trains from the extensive naval facilities in Portsmouth about away. ''Woodcroft Halt'', which was also known as ''Ditcham Park Halt'', opened on 4 October 1943, and closed on 1 October 1945. Sir William Tite (7 February 179820 April 1873) was an English architect who twice served as President of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He was particularly associated with various London buildings, with railway stations and cemetery projects. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bath from 1855 until his death.
