Eton Dorney
Dorney Lake (also known as Eton College Rowing Centre, and as Eton Dorney as a 2012 Summer Olympics venue) is a purpose-built rowing lake in England. It is near the village of Dorney, Buckinghamshire, and is around 3 km (2 miles) west of Windsor and Eton, close to the River Thames. The lake is privately owned and financed by Eton College, which spent £17 million developing it. Additional grants, totalling £500,000, were obtained from Sport England, UK Sport, the DCMS and SEEDA in order to build the lake's finish tower. The project was completed in 2006, after 10 years of construction. Andréanne Morin
Andréanne Morin (born August 9, 1981) is a Canadian rower and Olympian. Career Morin was an integral part of Canada's women's eights rowing team. She won medals at three world championships, a bronze medal at the 2003 World Rowing Championships and silver at the 2010 World Rowing Championships and 2011 World Rowing Championships. She was the NCAA champion in rowing 2006. Morin was a three time Olympian finishing seventh in the 2004 Summer Olympics and in fourth place at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. At the 2012 Summer Olympics she was part the Canadian women's eight that won the silver medal. Other work Morin was a member of the Athlete Committee at the World Anti Doping Agency. Women's eight competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was held on August 11 (heats), 13 (Repechage) and 17 (Final A), at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. This rowing event is a sweep rowing event, meaning that each rower has one oar and rows on only one side. Eight rowers and one coxswain crew each boat. The seven teams competing are placed into two heats, of four and three boats each. The fastest boat in each of those heats moves directly on to the final, while the rest of the boats are sent to the repechage. The repechage is a single heat, with the top four of the five boats advancing to the final. The repechage loser is given an overall rank of 7th place, last in the event.
