Rowing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's Coxless Pair
The men's coxless pair event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place from 24 to 29 July 2021 at the Sea Forest Waterway. 26 rowers from 13 nations competed. Background This was the 25th appearance of the event, which was not held at the first Games in 1896 (when bad weather forced the cancellation of all rowing events), the second games in 1900, the 1908 games, and the 1912 games. The reigning medalists in the event were New Zealand at the 2016 Summer Olympics, New Zealand, South Africa at the 2016 Summer Olympics, South Africa, and Italy at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Italy. All 3 qualified to the competition. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) was limited to a single boat (one rower) in the event since 1912. Sea Forest Waterway
The is a regatta venue for rowing (sport), rowing and canoeing, situated in Kōtō and Ōta, Tokyo, Ōta, Tokyo Bay, in Japan. History The venue was built for the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics, Paralympic Games. Construction began in 2016 and it was inaugurated in June 2019. It was built by Tokyo Metropolitan Government on the waterfront site and is the only rowing venue in Japan that meets international standards. The first international event that was held here were the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships. Rowing at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Olympic rowing events are held from 23 to 30 July 2021. The hopes to be able to continue to maintain it after the Olympics. Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Joshua Hicks
Joshua Hicks (born 29 April 1991) is an Australian representative rower. He is an Olympian and a two-time world champion who won gold in the coxless four at the 2017 World Rowing Championships and defended that title at Plovdiv in 2018. He competed in the Australian men's coxless pair at Tokyo 2021. Club and state rowing A Western Australian, Hicks was educated at Trinity College, Perth where he took up rowing. He won a collegiate rowing scholarship to Harvard University. There he rowed in Harvard's senior varsity eight in his second year of 2011. Following his return from Harvard and a move to New South Wales, Hicks' senior club rowing was from the Sydney Rowing Club. Sam Hardy (born 21 July 1995) is an Australian representative rower. He is a national champion, a national representative, an Olympian and won a bronze medals at the 2019 and 2022 World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing Hardy was educated at Newington College in Sydney where he took up rowing. He was seated at six in Newington's senior eight of 2013. His senior rowing in Australia has been from the Sydney Rowing Club.
