Qualification rules A nation may earn up to 1 boat in each of the 14 Rowing events. Note that though crew members' names are given below, for boats which qualified at the 2007 World Championships the crew racing at the Olympics is not required to include the same crew members as the crew which qualified. Sjoerd Hamburger (born 8 February 1983 in Oldeberkoop) is a rower from the Netherlands, who competes in the single scull. Hamburger was born and raised in Oldeberkoop, where he played korfball and was involved in training for triathlons. André Vonarburg (born 16 January 1978, in Lucerne) is a Swiss rower. He has represented Switzerland at four Olympics. Tim Maeyens
Tim Maeyens (born in Bruges, 23 August 1981) is a Belgian rower who competes primarily in the single scull. He competed at three Olympic Games. He started rowing at the age of nine and rows for the Royal Rowing Association of Bruges. In 1999, Maeyens won the bronze medal in the single scull at the Junior World Rowing Championships. In 2002, he teamed up with Christophe Raes to finish sixth place in the double scull at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. In 2004, he made the finals on the Olympic Games in Athens and earned sixth place. Maeyens again made the final in the 2008 Olympics, this time finishing fourth, 1.8 seconds out of a medal. Alan Campbell (rower)
Alan W Campbell (born 9 May 1983) is a British sculler. Biography Alan Campbell was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, and started rowing for his school, Coleraine Academical Institution for Boys. ON leaving, he joined Bann Rowing Club Coleraine. Years later he then left for London and joined Tideway Scullers School. In 2003, Campbell left his degree and won the Diamond Sculls at Henley Royal Regatta. He then made his international debut at the World U23 Championships in 2003, where he was forced to switch from the double to the single sculls five days before the regatta when his sculling partner became ill. Despite this he finished 8th. He competed in the quadruple sculls at the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing in 12th place. In 2005, Campbell won the men's single at the GB Selection Trials, and raced in the men's quad for the World Cup series, winning the bronze at Lucerne regatta. Olaf Tufte
Olaf Karl Tufte (born 27 April 1976 in Tønsberg) is a Norwegian representative rower, firefighter and farmer. He is a seven time Olympian, and as a single sculler he was twice the Olympic champion and twice the world champion. He's been consistently selected in the Norwegian men's senior national rowing squad since 1996 including his selection as a 2021 Tokyo Olympian where he made his seventh Olympic appearance racing in a quad scull for Norway. Early rowing career Tufte started rowing at aged 17, initially as a means to improve his handle on motor cross. He rows from the Horten Roklubb in Horten, Vestfold on the Oslofjord. He quickly displayed an aptitude for the sport and one year later in 1994, he debuted internationally for Norway rowing a single scull at the 1994 Junior World Rowing Championships. Ondřej Synek (; born 13 October 1982 in Stará Boleslav) is a former Czech rower. He is a five-times World Champion in Single Sculls, winning in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. He won Olympic silver medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Alexander Mahé Owens Drysdale (born 19 November 1978) is a retired New Zealand rower. Drysdale is a two-time Olympic champion and a five-time world champion in the single sculls. He is a seven-time New Zealand national champion and five-time recipient of New Zealand Sportsman of the Year.
