These are the results of the Women's coxless pair competition, one of six events for female competitors in Rowing at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens Athens ( ; el, Αθήνα, Athína ; grc, Ἀθῆναι, Athênai (pl.) ) is both the capital and largest city of Greece. The top 3 pairs from each heat advanced to the final. Heat 1 Heat 2 Final The Romanians never looked likely to lose as they led throughout. At 1,000 metres they were nearly two seconds clear of the Canadians who were half a second ahead of Belarus with world champions Great Britain a further second back. By 1,500 m. they had extended their lead with no change in positions in the trailing pack. Georgeta Damian
Georgeta Damian (married name Andruanche, born 14 April 1976 in Botoșani) is a female rower from Romania and winner of five Olympic gold medals. She married the rower Valeriu Andrunache in 2006. Damian rowed in the Romanian Women's eight, that won the World Rowing Championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999, and the 2000 Summer Olympics, where she also won the Women's pairs. With Viorica Susanu, she won the World Championships in the pairs in 2001 and 2002, and at the 2004 Summer Olympics she won gold medals in both pairs and eights. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, she won gold in the women's pairs with Susanu, and bronze in the eights. Juliette Haigh
Juliette Anne Haigh (born 4 August 1982), also known by her married name Juliette Drysdale but better known by her maiden name, is a retired professional Rowing (sport), rower. Haigh was born in 1982 in Auckland, New Zealand. Her parents are Penny and John Haigh. She knew that she wanted to compete at Olympic Games as a child but had not chosen a sport yet. She started rowing while she attended Takapuna Grammar School. Haigh has studied public relations at the University of Auckland, the University of Waikato, and Massey University. Haigh was in the New Zealand Women's Pair from 2004 to 2008 with Nicky Coles, then returned to the event after a year out and partnered Rebecca Scown in the boat. Buffy-Lynne Williams (formerly Buffy Alexander; born March 27, 1977) is a Canadian rower. She was born in St. Catharines, Ontario. The daughter of former National Hockey League player Claire Alexander, she began rowing at age 17. Darcy Marquardt (born March 22, 1979) is a Canadian rower. She graduated from the University of Victoria in 2005 with a major in French, and a minor in Psychology. She has been on the National Women's Rowing Team for 10 years (2002-2012). In her first year on the team, Darcy won a silver medal in the women's fours event at the 2002 World Championships in Seville, Spain and the following year, a bronze in the eights at the 2003 World Championships and Olympic Qualifier in Milan, Italy. She placed fourth in the 2004 Summer Olympics, with partner Buffy-Lynne Williams, and she was the 2006 World Champion in the Woman's Pairs with Jane Thornton.
