Sheila Rowbotham
Sheila Rowbotham (born 27 February 1943) is a British socialist feminist theorist and historian. Early life Rowbotham was born on 27 February 1943 in Leeds (in present-day West Yorkshire), the daughter of a salesman for an engineering company and an office clerk. From an early age, she was deeply interested in history. She has written that traditional political history "left her cold", but she credited Olga Wilkinson, one of her teachers, with encouraging her interest in social history by showing that history "belonged to the present, not to the history textbooks". Rowbotham attended St Hilda's College at Oxford University and then the University of London. She began her working life as a teacher in comprehensive schools and institutes of higher or adult education. David Harold Rowbotham (27 August 1924 – 6 October 2010) was an Australian poet and journalist. Early life Rowbotham was born in the Darling Downs of Queensland, in the city of Toowoomba. Samuel Birley Rowbotham (; 1816 – 23 December 1884, in London) was an English inventor, writer and utopian socialist who wrote ''Zetetic Astronomy: Earth Not a Globe'' under the pseudonym Parallax. His work was originally published as a 16-page pamphlet (1849), and later expanded into a book (1865). Rowbotham's method, which he called zetetic astronomy, models the Earth as a flat disc centered at the North Pole and bounded along its perimeter by a wall of ice, with the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars moving only several thousand miles above the surface of Earth. Life and career Rowbotham started out as an organiser of an Owenite community at Manea in The Fens, where he formulated his ideas about the Earth. Sara Rowbotham is a local councillor, community leader and former health worker in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, notable for helping to expose the child sex abuse ring there. She has served as Deputy leader of Rochdale Borough Council since 2018, and was first elected to represent North Middleton in 2015. She is also the Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing. Jason Rowbotham
Jason Rowbotham (born 3 January 1969) is a Welsh former professional footballer, who played as a left back. Career Rowbotham began his professional career in 1987 with Plymouth Argyle, spending five years at Home Park. In 1992, a move to Shrewsbury Town yielded no appearances and Rowbotham quickly moved on, to Hereford. After just five appearances, Rowbotham headed north to Kirkcaldy with Raith Rovers in July 1993 and started the most successful period of his career. In his three years with Rovers, Rowbotham suffered relegation from the Premier Division but won the resulting First Division, with a League Cup win in between. Darran Rowbotham (born 22 October 1966) is a Welsh former footballer who made more than 450 appearances in the Football League playing as a striker. Career Rowbotham was born in Cardiff, Wales. He began his career as a junior with Plymouth Argyle, and turned professional with the club in November 1984. Three years later he joined local rivals Exeter City. A key player in Exeter winning the Fourth Division title in the 1989–90 season, his goalscoring had linked him with possible moves to top-flight football. However, he sustained a serious knee injury which kept him out of football for a year, after which his career was restricted to the lower divisions of the Football League. Dave Rowbotham (1958 – 8 November 1991) was an English rock musician who played guitar and bass with various Manchester bands in the 1970s and the 1980s, and as a studio musician. Biography Born in Didsbury, Manchester, he went to school at Elm Grove Primary School and then Parrswood High School. He left school to train as an electrician and in 1970 he started playing rhythm guitar with his pals in a four piece rock cover band called Flashback. He later adopted the hippie lifestyle. Thomas Leeson Scrase Rowbotham (sometimes called Thomas Leeson Rowbotham the Elder or Thomas Leeson Rowbotham Senior; and his third forename sometimes given as Scarse) (1782–1853) was an English watercolourist and oil painter. He was a skilled painter of landscapes and marine subjects, became professor of drawing at the Royal Naval School and produced books on painting and drawing. He contributed 258 watercolours of scenes from Bristol, England to the topographical collection of George Weare Braikenridge. The Braikenridge Collection makes Bristol's early 19th century appearance one of the best documented of any English city. Jeffrey Rowbotham, Royal Institute of British Architects#Designation, ARIBA (23 August 1920 – 1 March 1984) was a Scottish people, Scottish architect. Life From February to August 1939, Rowbotham was an apprentice for James M Monro & Son. In September 1939, he started a diploma course at Glasgow School of Art. From June 1941 to September 1943 he continued working as an apprentice this time for Thomas Smith Cordiner. In 1945, he was awarded his diploma and passed the professional practice exam. Around this time he joined the Clyde Valley Regional Planning Advisory Committee. In 1946, he was elected Royal Institute of British Architects#Designation, ARIBA, his proposers being William James Smith, Patrick Abercrombie and Alexander Wright. Thomas Charles Leeson Rowbotham
Thomas Charles Leeson Rowbotham (1823 in Dublin – 30 June 1875 in Percy Lodge, Camden Hill, Kensington), was an Irish watercolour, landscape and marine artist and lithographer. He was the son of the watercolour artist, Thomas Leeson Scrase Rowbotham (1783–1853). He was trained by his father and first did serious works in 1847 on a sketching trip to Wales. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street Gallery and other prestigious galleries of the time and he was elected an associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1848 and a full member in 1851. He succeeded his father as Professor of Drawing at the Royal Naval School, New Cross in Greenwich. They collaborated on ''The Art of Landscape Painting in Water Colours'', and he provided the illustrations for his father's work, ''The Art of Sketching from Nature''. Harry Rowbotham
Henry Rowbotham (22 April 1911 – 1979) was an English footballer who played at inside-right. Career Rowbotham played for Cheddleton Mental Hospital before joining Port Vale in April 1931. He scored on his debut in a 1–0 win over Bradford City at The Old Recreation Ground on the last day of the season on 2 May 1931. The next season he was only used as a back-up player however, and he scored one goal in a 4–1 win over Preston North End at Deepdale on 24 October, making six Second Division appearances. He was released upon the end of the season and moved on to Cheshire County League club Hyde United. He scored 12 goals in 41 matches for Hyde in the 1932–33 campaign.
