The Round Table is the legendary gathering place of King Arthur's knights in the Arthurian legend. Round Table
The Round Table ( cy, y Ford Gron; kw, an Moos Krenn; br, an Daol Grenn; la, Mensa Rotunda) is King Arthur's famed table in the Arthurian legend, around which he and his knights congregate. As its name suggests, it has no head, implying that everyone who sits there has equal status, unlike conventional rectangular tables where participants order themselves according to rank. The table was first described in 1155 by Wace, who relied on previous depictions of Arthur's fabulous retinue. The symbolism of the Round Table developed over time; by the close of the 12th century it had come to represent the chivalric order associated with Arthur's court, the Knights of the Round Table. The Round Table movement, founded in 1909, was an association of organisations promoting closer union between Britain and its self-governing colonies. History of the movement The Round Table Movement evolved out of Lord Milner's Kindergarten. With the election of the Campbell-Bannerman government in the United Kingdom in 1905, and the recognition of Afrikaner "Responsible Government", the Kindergarten went on a marketing campaign to influence popular elections that were to be held in the Transvaal and Orange River Colonies. With cooperation from F.S. Round Table (horse)
Round Table (April 6, 1954 – June 13, 1987) was an American Thoroughbred Hall of Fame racehorse. He is considered the greatest turf horse in American racing history. Background Round Table was foaled at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, on the night of April 6, 1954. Bold Ruler was foaled at the same farm, on the same night, and both stallions won American Horse of the Year honors in their respective careers, returning to Claiborne to stand at stud. He was trained by Moody Jolley. Racing career Round Table's most significant win as a two-year-old came in October 1956, when he won the Breeders' Futurity Stakes at Keeneland Race Course. Table Ronde
"Table Ronde" was a successful song written by Joseph Kabasele in the popular Congolese rumba style and performed by his band L'African Jazz. It was written for the Round Table Conference on Congolese independence held in Brussels, Belgium in 1960 which gave the song its name. History In December 1959 it was announced that a round table conference would be held in Brussels, Belgium in 1960 to discuss the future of the Belgian Congo. Joseph Kabasele's L'African Jazz and OK Jazz were both invited to perform at the event. Only two musicians from OK Jazz were able to attend, so they briefly performed with L'African Jazz. Kabasele took part in the conference, and collaborated with his musicians to produce some songs to commemorate the event. The most notable of these were "Table Ronde" and "Indépendance Cha Cha". ''The Round Table'' is an American prime-time soap opera television series that aired on NBC on Friday nights from September 18 to October 16, 1992. Series The series is set in Washington D.C. and focuses on the lives of a group of professionals in their mid-twenties, who frequent a bar called ''The Round Table''. (In this way, it was reminiscent of the 1985 "brat pack" film ''St. Elmo's Fire''.) It aired at 9pm Eastern on Friday nights, and although the competition was not particularly strong (mostly ''Dinosaurs'' on ABC and the final season of ''Designing Women'' on CBS, neither of which was in the Top 25 that year), ''The Round Table'' was cancelled after just five episodes, plus two that were produced but did not air. Round Table is a Japanese pop band known mostly for their anime soundtracks. They are most popularly known in the Anime demographic for their hit single, "Let Me Be With You" - the opening song for the anime Chobits. The band was formed in 1997 with Katsutoshi Kitagawa (vocals, guitar, and bass guitar) and Rieko Ito (vocals and keyboard) as band members. In 2002, Nino joined as a guest vocalist. Nino provides the main vocals for the songs while Kitagawa provides backing vocals. Since then their songs have often been credited as "ROUND TABLE featuring Nino". The name of the album ''April'' came from Nino's birth-month. ''The Round Table'' is a collection of essays by William Hazlitt and Leigh Hunt published in 1817. Hazlitt contributed 40 essays, while Hunt submitted 12.Bate 2004. Background The content of ''The Round Table'' was mostly taken from Hunt and Hazlitt's contributions to '' The Examiner'', a newspaper which Hunt edited. The material for the first volume was sent to the printer as a collection of newspaper cuttings.Wu 2008, p. 184. The process of publishing the collection had begun in late 1815, but much of the following year was lost to delays caused by its Edinburgh-based publisher, Archibald Constable, who doubted that a collection of newspaper articles would have much success. The two volumes were finally published on 14 February 1817, and were sold at the price of fourteen shillings.
