Rough Ridin'
''Rough Ridin' '' is a lost 1924 American silent Western film directed by Richard Thorpe and starring Buddy Roosevelt. It was released by the Weiss Brothers on State Rights basis. The film was remade with Buddy Roosevelt in 1934 as ''Boss Cowboy''. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Buddy Benson's sweetheart, Rosalind, has been completely spoiled by attendance at an Eastern finishing school. She returns to the ranch jointly owned by her father and Buddy. Buddy, disillusioned, becomes enamored of Mary Ross, whose brother Dick owns the adjoining ranch. Dick's forieman, Jack Wells, is a cattle thief. Wells kills a man and fastens the guilt on Dick, demanding Mary as the price of his silence. Buddy disposes of Wells in a satisfactory fight, winning the friendship of Dick and the love of Mary. Richard Thorpe
Richard Thorpe (born Rollo Smolt Thorpe; February 24, 1896 – May 1, 1991) was an American film director best known for his long career at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Biography Born Rollo Smolt Thorpe in Hutchinson, Kansas, Richard Thorpe began his entertainment career performing in vaudeville and onstage. In 1921 he began in motion pictures as an actor and directed his first silent film in 1923. He went on to direct more than one hundred and eighty films. He worked frequently at the Poverty Row studio Chesterfield Pictures during the 1930s. The first full-length motion picture he directed for MGM was ''Last of the Pagans'' (1935) starring Ray Mala. At MGM, he teamed up with producer Pandro S. Elsa Benham
Elsa Benham (November 20, 1908 – April 20, 1995, Dallas, Texas) was a dancer and silent movie actress. Benham was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She and her family moved to Hollywood during her early childhood. Benham was Theodore Kosloff's dancing partner and was discovered by film director James Cruze as a member of the Kosloff Ballet when she performed in the film ''Hollywood'' (1923). Cruz signed her to a small part in a movie he was making. Her career progressed quickly as she secured roles in ''Dick Turpin'' (1925) with Tom Mix and ''The Phantom of the Opera'', which starred Mary Philbin and Lon Chaney. In 1925 Benham won a popularity contest conducted by the West Hollywood Business Men's Association. It was entered by many film actresses. She was awarded a diamond ring for winning.
