Ross Volunteers
The Ross Volunteer Company (commonly known as the Ross Volunteers or the RVs) is the military escort of the governor of Texas and a unit of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. History Establishment and early history The Ross Volunteers were established as a military drill team at Texas A&M University in 1887 under the name Scott Volunteers, honoring Col. T.M. Scott, the university's business manager. In 1891 the name of the unit was changed to the Ross Volunteers in honor of university president Lawrence Sullivan Ross, and later changed to the Foster Guards, and then the Houston Rifles, reflecting the names of Ross' successors. In 1905 the name was permanently set as the Ross Volunteers. Later history The unit was dormant during World War II but was reactivated in 1948. National Lancers
The National Lancers are a Massachusetts-based volunteer cavalry militia troop. The National Lancers, along with the Massachusetts National Guard and the Massachusetts State Defense Force, exists as a component of the Massachusetts Organized Militia. History The Lancers were organized on 31 October 1836 at the request of Governor of Massachusetts, Governor Edward Everett and organized as a light cavalry militia troop. The 3rd United States Infantry Regiment is a regiment of the United States Army. It currently has three active battalions, and is readily identified by its nickname, The Old Guard, as well as Escort to the President. The regimental motto is ''Noli Me Tangere'' (from Latin: – "Touch Me Not"). The regiment is a major unit of the Military District of Washington (MDW). The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is part of the state military force of Texas, and one of three branches of the Texas Military Forces. Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park is a baseball stadium in College Station, Texas, that is home to the Texas A&M baseball program. The stadium was dedicated on March 21, 1978, and is named in honor of C. E. "Pat" Olsen, a 1923 graduate of Texas A&M University and a former baseball player in the New York Yankees farm system. Olsen Field has served as an NCAA regional site five times and had its 1999 regional attendance ranked second with 53,287. The first NCAA Regional Tournament held at Olsen Field was in 1989. Pat Olsen
Carl Edwin "Pat" Olsen (August 3, 1902 May 11, 2000) was an American engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He played college baseball at Texas A&M University and was briefly with the New York Yankees organization. He founded a manufacturing and oil exploration company after leaving baseball. Olsen financially supported Texas A&M, his hometown of Clifton, Texas and Major League Baseball. He is the namesake for the baseball field at Texas A&M. Olsen was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Texas A&M and was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame, the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame and the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
