Roseisle Distillery
Roseisle is a distillery of Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, in Roseisle, near Elgin, Morayshire, in the Strathspey region of Scotland. The distillery is owned by multinational drinks company Diageo. The distillery opened in 2010 and is the largest-ever built at 3,000 sq m and a cost of £40million. Speyside Single Malts
Speyside single malts are single malt Scotch whiskies, distilled in Strathspey, the area around the River Spey in Moray and Badenoch and Strathspey, in northeastern Scotland. The two best-selling single malt whiskies in the world, The Glenlivet and Glenfiddich, come from Speyside. Strathspey has the greatest number of distilleries of any of the whisky-producing areas of Scotland. Dufftown alone has six working distilleries with an annual capacity of 40.4 million litres of spirit. Single Malt Scotch
Single malt Scotch refers to single malt whisky made in Scotland. To qualify for this category, a whisky must have been distilled at a single distillery using a pot still distillation process and made from a mash of malted barley. Therefore, a single malt means that the whisky has not been blended elsewhere with whisky from other distilleries. As with any Scotch whisky, a single malt Scotch must be distilled in Scotland and matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years, although most single malts are matured longer. Definitions * "Malt" indicates that the whisky is distilled from a "malted" barley. Malting calls for soaking the grains in water for several days until it germinates. Heat is then applied to stop the germination, often using peat as the fuel. Roseisle
Roseisle, also known as Old Town, is a village in the parish of Duffus, near Elgin, Moray, in the Strathspey region of Scotland. History A charter was given to William, son of Freskin from King William I of Scotland, of the lands of Roseisle between 1165 and 1171. Roseisle was sold by Alexander Stuart, 5th Earl of Moray to Alexander Sutherland, 1st Lord Duffus in 1653. The estate was purchased by Archibald Dunbar of Northfield who then sold Roseisle to John Gordon, 16th Earl of Sutherland in 1729. Elgin, Moray
Elgin (; sco, Ailgin; gd, Eilginn, ) is a town (former cathedral city) and formerly a Royal Burgh in Moray, Scotland. It is the administrative and commercial centre for Moray. The town originated to the south of the River Lossie on the higher ground above the floodplain where the town of Birnie is. There, the church of Birnie Kirk was built in 1140 and serves the community to this day. Elgin is first documented in the Cartulary of Moray in 1190 AD. It was created a royal burgh in the 12th century by King David I of Scotland, and by that time had a castle on top of the present-day Lady Hill to the west of the town. The origin of the name Elgin is likely to be Celtic. It may derive from 'Aille' literally signifying beauty, but in topography a beautiful place or valley. Strathspey, Scotland
Strathspey ( gd, Srath Spè, ) is the region around the strath of the River Spey, Scotland, split between the Moray council area and the Badenoch and Strathspey committee area of Highland. The term Strathspey usually refers to the upper part of the strath from the source of the Spey down to the capital, Grantown-on-Spey, whereas the anglicised form, ''Speyside'', refers to the area from Grantown-on-Spey to the mouth of the river at Spey Bay.
