John Rood Cunningham
John Rood Cunningham (July 3, 1891 – June 15, 1980) was the 12th president of Davidson College. Born in Missouri, Cunningham came to Davidson after spending several years in the ministry, including serving as president of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. As president, Cunningham was able to expand the endowment to five million dollars, almost double the size of the faculty, and increase the student population from around 160 students to 970 students. Cunningham also spearheaded the construction of several new buildings in order to accommodate the growth in students and faculty. James Rood Doolittle
James Rood Doolittle (January 3, 1815July 27, 1897) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin from March 4, 1857, to March 4, 1869. He was a strong supporter of President Abraham Lincoln's administration during the American Civil War. Early life Born in Hampton, New York, Doolittle was the son of Reuben Doolittle and Sarah Rood. He attended Middlebury Academy in Wyoming, New York, and, in 1834, he graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, New York. He subsequently studied law and was admitted to the New York bar association in 1837. Early career He then established a law practice in Rochester. Doolittle moved to Warsaw, New York, in 1841. Charles Rood Keeran (April 16, 1883 - June 9, 1948) was an Illinois inventor and businessman. Biography He was born on April 16, 1883, on a farm near Bloomington, Illinois. Having an inventive father, William Lee Keeran, C.R. Keeran grew up with a creative spirit. After achieving a master's degree in engineering, he soon began patenting his ideas (circa 1906) which continued throughout his lifetime: Keeran's 2-piece vacuum seal for Mason jars, which became the standard for home-canning, was immediately popular. However, he sold off his company, White Crown Fruit Jar, in order to finance his favorite invention: the Eversharp mechanical pencil. Johannes Dewald Roode (July 16, 1940 – Sept 27, 2009) was a South African academic and Professor at the University of Pretoria, specializing in Information Systems research. Biography Dewald Roode received a B.A. in theoretical physics, an M.A. in mathematics from the University of Potchefstroom in South Africa, another in physics from the same institute, and a PhD in operations research under the supervision of Guus Zoutendijk at the University of Leiden. Daniel Francois Roodt (born 26 May 1957) is a South African author, publisher, and commentator. Early life and education Roodt was born in the mining town of Springs, east of Johannesburg, South Africa. Tim Rood is a British classical scholar, specialising in Greek historiography and reception studies. He is Professor of Greek Literature at the University of Oxford and a fellow and tutor at St Hugh's College, Oxford. His research is principally concerned with the literary techniques of Herodotus, Thucydides, and Xenophon.
