Venus (mythology)
Venus (; ) is a Roman goddess whose functions encompass love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory. In Roman mythology, she was the ancestor of the Roman people through her son, Aeneas, who survived the fall of Troy and fled to Italy. Julius Caesar claimed her as his ancestor. Venus was central to many religious festivals, and was revered in Roman religion under numerous cult titles. The Romans adapted the myths and iconography of her Greek counterpart Aphrodite for Roman art and Latin literature. In the later classical tradition of the West, Venus became one of the most widely referenced deities of Greco-Roman mythology as the embodiment of love and sexuality. Bernina De Santis (21 October 1932 – 4 December 1985) was an Italian actress. Life and career Born in Ronciglione, as a child De Santis won a beauty contest and at young age she started working for the advertising industry and on stage. She made her film debut in 1954 in the melodrama ''Lacrime d'amore'' directed by Pino Mercanti, who suggested her stage name. She was very active in adventure films, Spaghetti Westerns, peplum and Eurospy films, sometimes credited as Dina De Saint. She retired from acting in the late 1960s. Mariangela Giordano (2 August 1937 – 16 July 2011) was an Italian film and television actress. Life and career Born in Dolcedo, Italy as Maria Angela Giordano, the daughter of a journalist, Giordano was elected Miss Liguria in 1954. Then she almost immediately started an intense film career, mainly appearing in genre films in which she was sometimes credited as Mary Jordan. She is known to cult horror movie fans for her starring roles in ''Giallo in Venice'', ''Patrick Lives Again'', ''The Devil's Daughter'', ''Satan's Baby Doll'', ''Burial Ground'' and ''Killer Barbys''. Numa Pompilius (; 753–672 BC; reigned 715–672 BC) was the Roman mythology, legendary second king of Rome, succeeding Romulus after a one-year interregnum. He was of Sabine origin, and many of Rome's most important religious and political institutions are attributed to him, such as the Roman calendar, Vestal Virgins, the cult of Mars, the cult of Jupiter, the cult of Romulus, and the office of ''pontifex maximus''. Genealogy According to Plutarch, Numa was the youngest of Pomponius's four sons, born on the day of Rome's founding (traditionally, 21 April 753 BC). He lived a severe life of discipline and banished all luxury from his home. Titus Tatius, king of the Sabines and a colleague of Romulus, gave in marriage his only daughter, Tatia (wife of Numa Pompilius), Tatia, to Numa. In Roman mythology, Hersilia was a figure in the foundation myth of Rome. She is credited with ending the war between Rome and the Sabines. Walter Lee Barnes (January 26, 1918 – January 6, 1998), nicknamed Piggy, was an American professional football guard and actor who played in National Football League (NFL) for four seasons. He played in college at Louisiana State University, and in the National Football League (NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a two-time NFL Champion (1948, 1949). After retiring in 1951, he became a film and television actor, mainly in Westerns. During the 1960's, he worked extensively in West German and Italian cinema.
