Romano-tv
''Romano-tv'' (previously ''Manne-tv'') is a twelve-episode sketch-show based on common stereotypes and misconceptions the Finns have of the domestic Romani minority. It ran from June 2 to August 18, 2007 on Yle. The show was propelled by the excitable performances of Santeri Ahlgren and Eeki Mantere (who died in April 2007, just before the shooting of the show) as well as through the support of the Finnish celebrity and musician Remu Aaltonen of Hurriganes (who himself is a member of the Finnish Romani community). The show's builds on the tradition of such extreme low-budget sketch-shows as ''Pulttibois'' and ''Kummeli Kummeli is the name of a Finnish comedy crew formed by Heikki Silvennoinen, Timo Kahilainen and Heikki Hela from Tampere. Eeki Mantere
Erik Kristian “Eeki” Mantere (25 January 1949, in Helsinki – 30 April 2007, in Espoo) was a Finnish musician that became famous in the 1970s as Viktor Kalborrek, soloist of the band Hullujussi. After Hullujussi disbanded in 1976, Mantere continued to perform as Viktor Kalborrek until the new millennium, albeit mainly in restaurants, department stores and TV programs. Playing a character that strongly resembled Kalborrek, he acted in the Seppo Huunonen movie ''The Hair'' from 1974. In 1989, he played Kalborrek in a supporting role in the Visa Mäkinen film '' Screws on Loose''. In the Juha Tapaninen movie, the '' Iskelmäprinssi'' from 1991, Mantere dropped the Kaborrek act and played an Italian fashion guru. Romani People
The Romani (also spelled Romany or Rromani , ), colloquially known as the Roma, are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group, traditionally nomadic itinerants. They live in Europe and Anatolia, and have diaspora populations located worldwide, with significant concentrations in the Americas. In the English language, the Romani people are widely known by the exonym Gypsies (or Gipsies), which is considered pejorative by many Romani people due to its connotations of illegality and irregularity as well as its historical use as a racial slur. Remu Aaltonen
Henry Olavi "Remu" Aaltonen (born 10 January 1948) is a Finnish drummer and singer. He is the lead musician of the band Hurriganes, but has also pursued a solo singing career. Aaltonen was born in Helsinki. He was the oldest child in a family of seven siblings and one foster child. He is of Romani descent. For a while the family lived in an abandoned train car near the construction of the Helsinki Airport. Hurriganes
Hurriganes was a Finnish rock band that was formed in the early 1970s. They were very popular in Finland, Sweden and Estonia in the 1970s and early 1980s, as well as a popular live act in Sweden during this time. Their classic line-up consisted of Remu Aaltonen, Albert Järvinen, and Cisse Häkkinen. The misspelling of the name ("Hurriganes" with a "g") is intentional. Their style of music is very much of a nostalgic, pre-Beatles, roots rock'n'roll orientation. During their "classic" period, the band's output consisted largely of revved-up cover versions of well-known 1950s rock 'n' roll songs, in addition to their own original material. In this sense, Hurriganes can be viewed as Finland's answer to British pub rock performers of the 1970s like Dave Edmunds and Dr. Feelgood. The Finnish Kale ( rom, Kàlo; sv, Kalé; fi, Kaale, also ''Suomen romanit'' — "Finnish Romani") are a group of the Romani people who live primarily in Finland and Sweden. Their main languages are Finnish, Swedish and Finnish Romani. History The original Finnish Kale were Romanisæl who came to Finland via Sweden after being deported from Sweden in the 17th century. The ancestors of Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian Romani are English and Scottish Romani, who were deported from the kingdoms of Scotland and England. Pulttibois
Pulttibois (Finglish for "Bolt Boys"; also a play on words of ''pultti pois'' - "to have a screw loose") was a popular Finnish sketch comedy television show that premiered on MTV3 in 1989 and which starred a two-man cast of comedic actors - Pirkka-Pekka Petelius and Aake Kalliala. Both Petelius and Kalliala had been previously known for their work on YLE sketch comedies during the 1980s. In ''Pulttibois'', Petelius and Kalliala created a compilation of over the top sketches, eventually leading to a large cult following. Three seasons of the show were made between 1989 and 1991, after which the show ended. It was succeeded by the similarly conceived, though less popular '' Manitbois''. Kummeli is the name of a Finnish comedy crew formed by Heikki Silvennoinen, Timo Kahilainen and Heikki Hela from Tampere. They are also the heads of ''Porkkana Ryhmä'', the crew's production company. Other famous members have included Olli Keskinen, better known for his on-screen persona ''Eero Kakko'', and Heikki Vihinen who replaced Keskinen in the mid-90s. Kummeli appeared on television between 1991 and 1995. After a successful three-part pilot aired they were given their own show on YLE's channel 2 with a completely new look. The Kummeli TV show was primarily composed of skits with insane characters, but would also feature musical guests as the core crew of the team were actually musicians rather than professional actors (with the exception of Hela, who, ironically, ended up behind the camera for the early episodes of the show). Antiziganism In Europe
Anti-Romani sentiment (also antigypsyism, anti-Romanyism, Romaphobia, or Antiziganism) is hostility, prejudice, discrimination or racism which is specifically directed at Romani people (Roma, Sinti, Iberian Kale, Welsh Kale, Finnish Kale, Horahane Roma, and Romanichal).
