Romanian-American Center Focus Publishing
Romanian Americans are Americans who have Romanians, Romanian ancestry. According to the 2017 American Community Survey, 478,278 Americans indicated Romanian as their first or second ancestry, however other sources provide higher estimates, which are most likely more accurate, for the numbers of Romanian Americans in the contemporary US; for example, the Romanian-American Network supplies a rough estimate of 1.2 million who are fully or partially of Romanian ethnicity. There is also a significant number of people of Romanian Jewish ancestry, estimated at about 225,000. History The first Romanian known to have been to what is now the United States was Samuel Damian (also spelled Domien), a former priest. Samuel Damian's name appears as far back as 1748, when he placed an advertisement in the ''South Carolina Gazette'' announcing the electrical demonstrations he planned to give and inviting the public to attend. Round Table Society NFP
The Round Table Society was a volunteer-run, charitable non-profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois. It was endorsed by the Romanian General Consulate, and the organization's mission was to facilitate intercultural exchange, strengthen the Romanian-American community, and create a sense of unity and belonging. The organization had no religious or political affiliations. During the course of its existence, RTS offered many programs to the Romanian community of Chicago, including training webinars and even free housing for new families and individuals moving to Chicago from Romania, and several cultural and traditional events, including a Romanian Film Festival in Chicago. RTS was founded by young volunteers from Chicago, including Ioana Salajanu, Relu and Cerasela Stan, Laszlo Revesz, Mihai Lehene, and Carmen Sauciuc. The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America ( ro, Episcopia Ortodoxă Română din America) is one of three ethnic dioceses of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), and a former diocese of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The diocesan center is located in Grass Lake, Michigan. Maryhill Museum Of Art
Maryhill Museum of Art is a small museum with an eclectic collection, located near what is now the community of Maryhill in the U.S. state of Washington. The museum is situated on a bluff overlooking the eastern end of the Columbia River Gorge. The structure was originally intended as a mansion for entrepreneur Samuel Hill (1857-1931), and was designed by architects Hornblower and Marshall. It was named Maryhill for Hill's wife, daughter of James J. Hill, a Great Northern Railroad baron, and was intended to be used as a home at which they could entertain Samuel Hill's school friend King Albert I of Belgium. Construction was halted upon America's entry into World War I. The unfinished museum building was dedicated on November 3, 1926 by Queen Marie of Romania, and was opened to the public on Hill's birthday (May 13) in 1940.
