Roman Catholic Diocese Of Taungngu
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Taungngu (Lat: ''Diocesis Tunguensis'') is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Roman Catholic Church in Taungoo, Myanmar. The current bishop is Isaac Danu, appointed in 1989. History Erected in 1870, the diocese has the distinction of being one of the oldest in all of Burma. Originally established as the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma, in 1927 the Vicariate was subdivided, and the Apostolic Prefecture of Kentung established. The Prefecture would eventually become the Diocese of Kengtung. At the same time, the old Vicariate was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Toungoo. In 1955, the Vicariate was elevated to a full diocese. In 1961, the diocese would be again subdivided, and the diocese of Taunggyi, the future Archdiocese of Taunggyi established. Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Taunggyi
The Archdiocese of Taunggyi ( la, Archidioecesis Taunggyiensis) is a particular church of the Roman Catholic Church located in the Shan State of Myanmar. The dioceses of Kengtung, Loikaw, Pekhon and Taungngu are suffragans of the archdiocese. The cathedral of the archdiocese is St. Joseph's Cathedral in Taunggyi. The diocese of Taunggyi was created on March 21, 1961 by splitting from the diocese of Taungoo, and was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Yangon. When the diocese was elevated to become an archdiocese and metropolitan see on January 17, 1998, Kentung (from Mandalay) and Loikaw and Taungoo (from Yangon) were assigned to the new ecclesiastical province. The Diocese of Pekhon was created on December 15, 2005 by splitting off the southern part of the archdiocese. The Roman Rite ( la, Ritus Romanus) is the primary liturgical rite of the Latin Church, the largest of the ''sui iuris'' particular churches that comprise the Catholic Church. It developed in the Latin language in the city of Rome and, while distinct Latin liturgical rites such as the Ambrosian Rite remain, the Roman Rite has gradually been adopted almost everywhere in the Latin Church. Taungoo
Taungoo (, ''Tauñngu myoú''; ; also spelled Toungoo) is a district-level city in the Bago Region of Myanmar, 220 km from Yangon, towards the north-eastern end of the division, with mountain ranges to the east and west. The main industry is in forestry products, with teak and other hardwoods extracted from the mountains. The city is known for its areca palms, to the extent that a Burmese proverb for unexpected good fortune is equated to a "betel lover winning a trip to Taungoo". The city is famous in Burmese history for the Toungoo dynasty which ruled the country for over 200 years between the 16th and 18th centuries. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kengtung (Lat: ''Diocesis Kengtunghensis'') is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Burma. Erected in 1927 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Kengtung, the prefecture was created from territory in the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma.
