Roman Catholic Diocese Of Phát Diệm
The diocese of Phát Diệm ( la, Dioecesis de Phat Diem, links=no) is a Roman Catholic diocese of Vietnam. The creation of the diocese in present form was declared November 24, 1960. The diocese covers an area of 1,787 km², and is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Hanoi. By 2004, the diocese of Phát Diêm had about 144,721 believers (15.9% of the population), 31 priests and 65 parishes. Queen of the Rosary Cathedral in Kim Sơn District ( Ninh Bình Province) has been assigned as the Cathedral of the diocese. Phát Diệm Cathedral
The Phát Diệm Cathedral ( vi, Nhà thờ chính tòa Phát Diệm, french: Cathédrale de Phat Diem) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phát Diệm, located in Kim Sơn District of Ninh Bình Province in Vietnam. The architecture of the church – built in stone and wood in 1891 – is an eclectic blend of Vietnamese and European architectural styles. It was mainly built in traditional Vietnamese architecture, similar to historical palaces and temples. It was bombed in 1972 and later restored. In addition to the cathedral itself, the Phát Diệm complex consists of five chapels, three grottoes, a memorial house, and the recently built pastoral center of the diocese. Joseph Nguyễn Năng (born 1953) is a Vietnamese prelate of the Catholic Church who has been a bishop since 2009 and the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City since October 2019. Since 2022, he has been appointed president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam. Biography Joseph Nguyễn Năng was born on 24 November 1953 in Phúc Nhạc, Ninh Bình Province.
