Roman Catholic Diocese Of Lahore
The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Lahore is a Latin Metropolitan Archdiocese in Punjab province, Pakistan. Its episcopal seat is the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Lahore. History In 1594 the Mughal emperor Akbar invited some Catholic priests from Goa to stay permanently at his court. This group of Jesuit missionaries arrived in the Punjab and were able to build a church, where they celebrated Christian ceremonies, and receive adults into the Church. It was founded in 1880 as Apostolic Vicariate of Punjab, on territory split off from the Apostolic Vicariate of Agra (now also a Metropolitan Archbishopric). On 1 September 1886 it was promoted and renamed after its see as Diocese of Lahore. Lawrence Saldanha
Lawrence John Saldanha (born 12 June 1936) is an Indian-born retired Pakistani archbishop. Born in Mangalore, India, he received his religious training at the Christ the King seminary in Karachi and was ordained a priest in Lahore, Pakistan on 16 January 1960. Biography He also earned a doctorate in systematic theology from Rome-based Pontifical Urbaniana University. He participated in the Second Vatican Council. He served in different parishes in Lahore. He served from 1971 to 1974 as editor of the Catholic Naqib, the Archdiocese's Urdu bimonthly. He was also rector of Christ the King Seminary in Karachi from 1974 to 1979 and taught dogmatic theology there until 1983. Armando Trindade
Armando Trindade (born 25 October 1927 in Karachi, British India (now Pakistan)) studied at St Patrick's High School, Karachi. He received his religious training at the Papal Seminary, Kandy, Sri Lanka and was ordained a priest on 6 May 1950. He undertook graduate studies at Oxford University in England, and then attended Stanford University in the United States for his doctoral degree. Until 1962 he was principal of the St Lawrence's Boys High School in Karachi. He went on to become principal of St Paul's English High School where he remained until 1973. He also edited Christian Voice, Karachi the archdiocesan weekly. On 5 July 1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lahore, Pakistan.
