Roman Catholic Diocese Of Houma–Thibodaux
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Houma–Thibodaux ( la, Dioecesis Humensis–Thibodensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in southeastern Louisiana. It comprises Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, the eastern part of St. Mary Parish including Morgan City, and Grand Isle in Jefferson Parish. Although a small diocese in terms of area (around 3,500 square miles), it has a large Catholic population, with approximately 126,000 Catholics out of a total population of 202,000 within the parish boundaries. The diocese includes part of Cajun Louisiana. History Pope Paul VI erected the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux as a diocese with two sees on June 5, 1977, taking its present territory from the Metropolitan Archdiocese of New Orleans and making it a suffragan of the same metropolitan see. Oscar Azarcón Solís (born October 13, 1953) is a Philippine-born prelate of the Roman Catholic Church and current bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City in Utah. Joseph Nunzio Latino (October 21, 1937 – May 28, 2021) was a bishop of the Catholic Church in the United States. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Jackson in Mississippi from 2003 to 2013. Early life and career Joseph Latino was born on October 21, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended St. Joseph Seminary College in Covington, Louisiana, and Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. Shelton Joseph Fabre is an American prelate of the Catholic Church who has served as the Archbishop of Louisville since March 30, 2022. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux from 2013 to 2022 and was auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New Orleans from 2007 to 2013.
