Latin Rite
Latin liturgical rites, or Western liturgical rites, are Catholic rites of public worship employed by the Latin Church, the largest particular church ''sui iuris'' of the Catholic Church, that originated in Europe where the Latin language once dominated. Its language is now known as Ecclesiastical Latin. The most used rite is the Roman Rite. The Latin rites were for many centuries no less numerous than the liturgical rites of the Eastern Catholic Churches, Eastern autonomous particular churches. Their number is now much reduced. Serafim Fernandes De Araújo
Serafim Fernandes de Araújo (; 13 August 1924 – 8 October 2019) was a Brazilian prelate of the Catholic Church who served as Archbishop of Belo Horizonte from 1986 to 2004. He was made a cardinal of the Catholic Church by Pope John Paul II in 1998. Biography Araújo was born in Minas Novas, in the northeast of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and grew up in nearby Itamarandiba. He studied at the seminary of Diamantina from the age of twelve, graduating in humanities in 1942 and philosophy in 1944, later continuing his studies from 1949 until 1951 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he earned licentiates in theology and canon law. He was ordained on 12 March 1949 in the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran in Rome. Upon returning to Brazil in 1951, he worked in pastoral ministry in Gouveia until 1957 and later in Curvelo until 1959.
