Roll With It (Oasis Song)
"Roll with It" is a song by the English rock band Oasis, written by the lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. It was released on 14 August 1995 by Creation Records as the second single from their second studio album, ''(What's the Story) Morning Glory?'' (1995). In a highly publicised chart battle with Blur's single "Country House" dubbed " The Battle of Britpop," "Roll with It" reached number two on the UK singles chart. 'Battle' with Blur "Roll with It" received a great deal of attention when Food Records, the label of Britpop rivals Blur, moved the original release date of the single "Country House" to beat it on the charts, sparking what came to be known as " The Battle of Britpop". The British media had already reported an intense rivalry between the two bands and this clash of releases was seen as a battle for the number one spot. Oasis (band)
Oasis are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. The group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals), Paul Arthurs, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (musician), Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). Liam asked his older brother Noel Gallagher (lead guitar, vocals) to join as a fifth member a few months later to finalise their formation. Noel became the ''de facto'' leader of the group and took over the songwriting duties for the band's first four studio albums. They are regarded as one of the defining and most globally successful groups of the Britpop genre. Acquiesce
"Acquiesce" is a song by English rock band Oasis, written by Noel Gallagher. The song originally appeared as the B-side to Oasis' first UK number-one single, " Some Might Say", in 1995. Its popularity led to it being included on the B-sides compilation album '' The Masterplan'', released in 1998, after being voted for inclusion by fans of the band on their official website. In October 1998, the song was issued as a radio single in North America to promote the release of '' The Masterplan''. It reached number 24 on the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart, number 20 on the Canadian ''RPM'' Alternative 30, and number 44 on the ''RPM'' Top Singles chart. "Acquiesce" was also released as one of the lead tracks to the '' Stop the Clocks'' EP, in promotion of their compilation album of which it also appears on, '' Stop the Clocks''. David Stubbs
David Stubbs (born 13 September 1962 in London) is a British music journalist. He grew up in Leeds and in the early 1980s was a student at the University of Oxford where he was a close friend of fellow journalist Simon Reynolds. The two were part of the Oxford-based collective that in 1984 launched the pop journal ''Monitor'' and then in 1986 both joined ''Melody Maker'' as staff writers. Stubbs remained at ''Melody Maker'' for a dozen years. He combined his serious writing career with writing the humorous "Talk Talk Talk" section, which featured the character of Mr Agreeable''.' Status Quo (band)
Status Quo are a British rock band. The group originated in London and was founded in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster while they were still schoolboys. After a number of name and lineup changes, which included the introduction of John Coghlan (drummer), John Coghlan in 1963 and Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. As of 2022, the group have been active for 60 consecutive years (despite announcing a breakup in 1984, they played Live Aid the following year and resumed normal activities in 1986). Stephen Thomas Erlewine (; born June 18, 1973) is an American music critic and former senior editor for the online music database AllMusic. He is the author of multiple artist biographies and record reviews for AllMusic, as well as a freelance writer, occasionally contributing liner notes. It was released on 10 October 1994 by Creation Records as the fourth and final single from their debut album, ''Definitely Maybe'' (1994), and their second to enter the UK top ten in the United Kingdom, peaking at number seven, eventually spending 79 weeks on the charts. On 13 March 2020, nearly 26 years after its release, the song was certified Platinum, indicating 600,000 sales.
