Roger De Clifford (died 1282)
Roger de Clifford (died 6 November 1282), Lord of Appleby, Master of Topcliffe, was an English noble. He participated in Edward I's conquest of Wales in 1282. From Anglesey, an English force crossed over the Menai Strait where they were defeated at the Battle of Moel-y-don, and Clifford was slain during the battle. Life Roger was the eldest son of Roger de Clifford by Hawise Botterell. He was summoned to take part during the second campaign of Edward I against Wales in 1282. An English army proposed to cross the Menai Strait via a boat bridge over from Anglesay to Gwynedd, in an attempt to form a second front at the rear of the Welsh forces. The English army, led by Luke de Tany, crossed over the boat bridge on 6 November, however they were attacked by the Welsh on the opposite side. In the ensuing battle of the Menai Strait, the English forces were driven back across the bridge. The boat bridge was destroyed leaving more than 300 killed or drowned, including Clifford and Tany. ...

Roger De Clifford, 2nd Baron De Clifford
Roger de Clifford, 2nd Baron de Clifford, also 2nd Lord of Skipton (21 January 1300 – 23 March 1322) was a member of the Clifford family, which held the seat of Skipton from 1310 to 1676. He inherited his title when his father, Robert de Clifford, 1st Baron de Clifford died at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. His mother was Maud de Clare, eldest daughter of Thomas de Clare, Lord of Thomond and Juliana FitzGerald. Roger was also hereditary High Sheriff of Westmorland. He was involved in a rebellion against King Edward II's favourite Hugh Despenser the Younger, and ultimately against the King himself. He took part in the Siege of Tickhill. The rebel forces were then brought to battle by the King's forces in Boroughbridge in March 1322; during the battle, Roger Clifford received severe wounds. Forced to surrender, he was condemned to death and held captive in York. He was hanged there, probably on 23 March, and his estates forfeited, including Skipton Castle Skipton Castle ...

Roger De Clifford, 5th Baron De Clifford
Roger de Clifford, 5th Baron de Clifford, ninth Lord Clifford, fifth Baron of Westmoreland (10 July 1333 – 13 July 1389), was the son of Robert de Clifford, 3rd Baron de Clifford (d. 20 May 1344), second son of Robert de Clifford, 1st Baron de Clifford (1273–1314), the founder of the northern branch of the family. His mother was Isabella (d. 25 July 1362), daughter of Maurice, 2nd Lord Berkeley. He succeeded his elder brother, Robert de Clifford, 4th Baron de Clifford in 1350, on which day he made proof of his age. Life Military career Clifford entered on his military career when hardly more than twelve, being armed at the time of Jacob van Artevelde's death on 17 July 1345. In August 1350 he was engaged in the seafight with the Spaniards near Winchelsea; and in 1355 he accompanied his father-in-law, Thomas de Beauchamp, 11th Earl of Warwick, on the expedition to Gascony. There have been two baronetcies created for a person with the surname Clifford. The Clifford Baronetcy, of the Navy, was created for Augustus William James Clifford, the illegitimate son of the 5th Duke of Devonshire (as son of the 6th Baroness Clifford and himself the 7th one) on 4 August 1838 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It has become extinct at the death of the 4th Baronet on 22 November 1895. The Clifford Baronetcy, of Flaxbourne in New Zealand was created for Charles Clifford, a grandnephew of Hugh Clifford, 4th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh (and nephew of Sir Thomas Clifford-Constable, Bt) on 16 July 1887 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom.
