roff is a typewriter-oriented markup language. As the first Unix text-formatting computer program, it is a predecessor of the nroff and troff document processing systems. Roff was a Unix version of the runoff (program), runoff text-formatting program from Multics, which was a descendant of RUNOFF for Compatible Time-Sharing System, CTSS (the first computerized text-formatting application). History CTSS ''roff'' is a descendant of the TYPSET and RUNOFF, RUNOFF program by Jerry Saltzer, which ran on Compatible Time-Sharing System, CTSS. Don Roff
Don Roff (born December 13, 1966, in Walla Walla, Washington) is a writer and filmmaker. Roff grew up in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. He worked at the local drive-in theater and made Super 8 mm and VHS movies with his neighborhood friends. He graduated from McLoughlin Union High School in 1985. Roff joined the United States Army in 1989 and became a US Army Ranger. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia in the 3d Ranger Battalion, and was a part of Operation Just Cause in Panama. He graduated from Walla Walla Community College in 1995 and the Evergreen State College in 1997. After living in Seattle, Washington and New York City, Roff returned to Walla Walla, Washington in 2011. In June 2006, Roff received the Zola Award for screenwriting from the Pacific Northwest Writers Association. He is a daily practitioner of Transcendental Meditation (TM). Jeremy Roff
Jeremy Roff (born 22 November 1983) is an Australian middle-distance runner who specialises in the 1500 metres. Born in Sydney, New South Wales, he began competing at the elite level in 2003. His first major international event was the 2006 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, and he was 58th in the men's short race. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, he represented Australia in the 1500 m and placed eighth in the final. He was the runner-up of the 1500 m at the 2007 Zatopek Classic, behind Nick Bromley. He was selected for the 2009 World Championships in Athletics but did not make it past the heats. He again took second place at the Zatopek Classic later that year, this time being beaten by Mitch Kealey. At the Melbourne Track Classic in March 2010, he scored a major upset by beating Asbel Kiprop and Nick Willis, taking the runner-up spot behind Jeff Riseley. Joe Roff
Joe Roff (born 20 September 1975) is a retired Australian rugby union footballer and a product of the Tuggeranong Vikings Rugby Union Club in Canberra, who played on the wing or at fullback for ACT Brumbies and Australia and played 5 tests as a centre in the early part of his Test career.
