Rodolfo Lozano
Rodolfo "Rudy" Lozano (July 10, 1942 – July 11, 2018) was a United States federal judge, United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. Education and career Born in East Chicago, Indiana, East Chicago, Indiana, Lozano received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University Bloomington in 1963 and a Bachelor of Laws from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1966. He was in the United States Army Reserve from 1966 to 1973. He was in private practice in Merrillville, Indiana, Merrillville, Indiana from 1966 to 1988. Federal judicial service On December 4, 1987, Lozano was nominated by President Ronald Reagan to a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana vacated by Judge Michael Stephen Kanne. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. ''The Times of Northwest Indiana'' (NWI) is a daily newspaper headquartered in Munster, Indiana. It is the second-largest newspaper in Indiana, behind only ''The Indianapolis Star''. History The paper was founded on June 18, 1906, as ''The Lake County Times''. Its founder, Simon McHie, was a native of a small town along the Niagara River in Canada. In 1933, the name was changed to ''The Hammond Times'', and it became an afternoon paper serving Hammond, Whiting, and East Chicago. In May 1962, the McHie family sold the publication to Robert S. Howard of Howard Publications. The paper expanded to all of northwest Indiana in 1967 and dropped Hammond from its masthead to become simply ''The Times''. Offices were moved to Munster in 1989, and the paper began morning delivery and began printing different editions based on distribution region.
